Living in Florida with the HHR, it doesn't get that cold here, but a year or so ago I was up in Maine in early December and saw that message pop up on DIC. I try to stay away from cold weather if I can.
I think i know when there is ice a little better then the hhr, and since it just pulls off the temp gauge, and it was 37 when it told me that, i doubt i was going to find some ice...
True, no ice at 37° F... until you drive over any part of the roadway that has been cooled by wind chill, such as a bridge. It's just a reminder, and I think it's useful. If it's cold as hell and the place is covered in snow, no reminder is needed. Close to freezing is exactly when I find the reminder most useful. At least, it was before I moved to the tropics. Now it's much less of an issue (though it does sometimes freeze high on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa).
