Honestly, I love the manual. I drive 100 miles a day, with traffic, and I'm still happy with it. The HHR SS has the absolute lightest clutch I have ever felt, and is so effortless to shift.

I bought the auto for two reasons: Denver traffic, and because I wanted the one with the most performance. The following is from a Car and Driver test of the Solstice/Sky manual vs. auto (same engine as ours, same tuning):

Zero to 60 mph: 5.6 sec manual 5.2 sec auto
Zero to 100 mph: 14.9 sec manual 14.7 sec auto
Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.7 sec manual 5.9 sec auto
Standing ¼-mile: 14.2 sec @ 98 mph manual 14.0 sec @ 98 mph auto

Couldn't agree more, I about put my foot through the floor everytime I drive the HHR SS after driving my other vehicle with a stick.

Auto if you're lazy and don't care.

Any true DRIVERS car will be a stick shift. But then again I would only get a corvette in a 5 speed as well.

I've driven Sticks all my life, a few automatics mixed in mostly as winter rats.
Finally break down to getting our SS as an automatic due to my breaking five bones in my foot, and may wife having already had both hips replaced (I still think they are as fat as the old ones... so what was that all about!) and needing a knee surgery soon.

That and there wasn't a SS stick available in three hundred miles of here at the time helped the decision.

Handicap is a decent excuse. Same thing goes for trike motorcycle riders.
