MevOTech CMS50174

Hey Folks,
Has anyone purchased the right side lower control arm and it truly is the right part for the HHR SS? The part is from MevOTech CMS50174. I can't get a straight answer from RockAuto or others (That should know). Thank you.

Not seeing anything in the RockAuto ad that says this is for the FE5 suspension on the HHR SS. In fact, I pulled up that part # at some other websites. It lists the Mevotech CMS50174 has being one of those “fits all” parts. 2006-2011. One ad (Summit) said it was a FE3 part.

I would say NO as far as being for the HHR SS.

If you want the LCA assembly you need the GM part.

Nope not the correct ball joint stub size . You’ll crack the knuckle when you tighten the pinch bolt.

As usual, ya'll are GREAT! Thanks for a wealth of hard data. Sure wish the folks at parts stores, as well as the manufacturers, knew this much. Now the hunt is on for a new right LCA. I replaced both only 7,000 miles ago. The left/driver's LCA is fine. I will investigate further to see if there is another problem causing a premature failure of the right/passenger LCA. Also, RockAuto tech told me they no longer carry the GM part. Looks like parts for the SS might become harder to come by. Thanks again.

By failures, do you mean the rear bushings or the ball joints?
you can press out the bushings and press in new ones and you can drill out the rivets and replace the ball joints.

OTTP has ball joints for the SS

And Moog has the K201285 problem solver

https://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/moog-k201285

I just google the part number and find lower price to order

If they were replaced 7,000 miles ago, chances are the point of failure is the aforementioned ball joint stud.

ball joint. Because it was a warranty, to get a refund I had to send the whole control arm back to rockauto. I will order a couple of these just for spares from OTTP. Again, thanks for the data.

The ball joints on SS are not available and most vendors do not know it is different. You MUST measure the stud (20.5mm) NO LCA that is advertised as "fits all" (20mm) fits SS.
The stud on a SS ball joint is larger and so is the hole it fits into on the knuckle. If you put a LS/LT ball joint in, it will "fit" but the pinch will not tighten. Like sticking a 1/2 inch bolt in a 9/16 inch nut; fits but loose.
Until very recently the ONLY supplier of SS LCAs was GM. Nobody can find a supplier of the CORRECT ball joints.
RockAuto is not the supplier of parts, they are a website that helps vendors sell things.

Please listen to our 15 years of experience.

This is the stud in question, the rest of the arm is the same.

Don
I think OTTP is now selling the correct ball joints for the SS.
Or so I read earlier on this site. I think the members here were waiting for someone to buy some and confirm them to be correct.
(Seems I also recall someone confirming they were correct…)
