Mustangs, Camaro's Blah blah blah
I hear you man, no respect for the LNF platform but you can blame GM for there poor ass marketing for it, but the V6 Camaro doesn't have any advantages what so ever in performance over a HHR SS. You would have to move up to a Camaro SS and the base is starting at $30,945 MSRP.
The new 2011 Mustang V6 is intriguing as it traps 13.5-13.7 in the 1/4 mile while the V6 Camaro is 14.2-14.5.
As for the Regal GS turbo, the new 2.0 DI turbo Hynudai Sonata (thats right Hyundai in the same segment) is suppose to put out 275 hp, the Regal GS only puts out 250, but the Hyundai only weighs in at
3100 lbs also (less then our HHR SS
). The only thing the Regal GS turbo might have over the Hyundai is an awd system but that option isn't suppose to come out till next year sometime for the GS turbo model (if it comes out).
A little unknown fact, Hyundai used the exact same blocks as the Mitsubishi DSM 4G63 blocks in some of there cars in the past.

ALso the fact is the SS vs the V6 Camaro is a tough comparison. RWD vs FWD base entry model vs top model and coupe vs wagon. Add to this not everyone likes a HHR. You either like it or not the styling is polarizing.
Last stated the Buick GS will not get the AWD many assumed it would get. They are trying to keep the price down as well as the weight. The Opel also had 325 HP V6 pushing the AWD and the regal will not get that. The GS will come out in 2011 once production moves to Canada and it is in the latest GM comercial.
Apples and Oranges. They are two different animals. I was waiting for the Camaro to come out because I really wanted one. When I saw the production Camaro I no longer wanted one. Went and bought the HHR SS and have been happy about it. The Camaro, Challenger, and the 2010 Mustang have gotten to big outside and smaller inside.
[QUOTE=corvairman;460352]While reading a link on this forum about GM paying off its loan, it led me to another link about the Mustang and Camaro V-6 power strugle. In short the Mustang is claiming to have 305 hp and now the Camaro is suppose to have 312hp. The article says that both cars have plenthy of power with the V-6. What I am getting at is that this shows how under ratted our HHR SS vehs. are we only have a 2.0 and with the GM upgrade were almost pushing 300hp in a smaller veh. not to mention with a few other upgrades can surpass the 300 mark. It makes me love my sleeper all the more. We are in an exclusive club. I actually would like to hear from anyone who takes on one of the new Mustangs or Camaros with their HHR SS, it should be interesting.
The new Mustang V6 is putting a hurt on the new Camaro V6. Both are impressive motors. With the ways of testing HP numbers today, I would not say the 2.0 is "underrated". You already have seen with the stage upgrade was a little tuning can do. I'm sure a little tuning was involved in getting the 3.6 from 304 to 312 HP. Ford offers gearing to either get better mileage, or better performace over Chevy. I'm sure Chevy will counter with something. Ford waited until the Camaro hit the road before they announced their new motors.
You still got to remember, the HHR SS is running a turbo motor. Both the Camaro and 2011 Mustang and running N/A motors. Both heavier cars and both are putting numbers faster than the HHR SS, with a V6. Even the mileage is close.
The new Mustang's V6 is putting the same HP down as the Cobra only a few years ago.
It's still apples to oranges. Each has a fanbase, only one has a 40 year headstart. The HHR will never catch that.
Enjoy what you drive and just have fun with it.

^^^ A stock 5 spd HHR SS can pull the same #'s as the V6 Camaro stock in the 1/4 mile, similar on the skid pad too. Heck after looking up the Camro V6 all the performance stuff is pretty darn close.
But like it was pointed out earlier the HHR SS is a niche market, so you either like them or you don't.

Sometimes I think they forget the Camaro is on our side. We are lucky to have both it and the HHR.
Also I think they will sell more Camaros than SS HHR's so it is best no to spit into the wind The public has spoken.

[QUOTE=hyperv6;460852]I'm not to worried about the HHR, I'm more concerned about Chevy not putting the LNF in more vehicles besides low production vehicles. At on time they were gonna stick the LNF motor in the Camaro, till they settled on the V6.
didn't read all of the post, but i feel VERY confident that my ss will blow the doors off a stock ss camaro and disgustang...camaro is too heavy of a pig. from a low speed roll,i'll mak'em take it back to the dealer and get a z06
. not to hijack, but people that own challenger and chargers with the srt package THINK they can walk away...love to see the look on their face...

No the V6 was in all along. The 4 LNF was a after tough near release. Lutz was toying with the idea but the Camaro team was not for it.
Now the new Camaro on the Alpha will have a 4 turbo base engine and a Twin turbo V6. The V8 is up in the air at this point and GM is not say if it wil or won't. 2016 CAFE rules will make it difficult. We may see the 8 in the Z28 in limited numbers only and you will pay for it dearly.
Note the Twin Turbo they are showing is at 420 HP and the new Alpha will weigh a lot less.

Hyper.....
If Obama and HIS Administration have any say, this will PROBABLY NOT materialize.
The word is coming that all vehicles WITH EXCESSIVE (their term) will be run for emission testing, at wide open throttle and up to top speed.
I'll look for the article and post it when I find it.

Twin Turbo - that would be awesome.
