I flew to Ohio and bought my HHR in Upper Sandusky. I went North through Toledo, Across to Chicago, Across Missouri to Kansas, the back home to Houston. It was one hell of a way to get used to my car. :)

:lol: The PA Turnpike in an SS. You realize the minimume speed on that shoulderless cowpath is 85MPH right? :eek:

4000 mile trip
 

WE took a 4000 mile trip a month after we got our's . Set cruise at 70 and was taking 40 mpg turns at set speed . After the trip I changed the tires to goodyear F1's . It made a good car into a great car . It rides and handle a lot better . We both prefer to travel in it over our trailblazer and camper , they maybe setting for our next trip .

Yeah - that's going to make the trip an adventure. I'll also get to go through my first tunnel in the SS. :D

If your SS is a manual, the lack of armrests gets to be a pain unless you added one as a lot of us have done. Other than that, it's better than many on long trips. I have the XM, and that also helps make the trips go by. If no XM, I recommend books on tape/CD (you too Paul).

I just got back from Zoo Jersey Sunday. 1307 miles,18hrs and 3.1 tanks of fuel with an avg speed of 75mph up the I95 corridor one way. I travelled with my 2 dogs, so I had to pull over more frequently than I wanted to. The SS suspension gets into the road nicely and not as jarring as one may think on a long run, but concrete hwys with the stress joints gets a little monotonous with the bucking bronco effect on the short wheel base. I have no complaints other than the left foot rest angle and position sucks. 4-5 hour stints (without using armrests)were no less uncomfortable than any other vehicle Ive travelled in. The SS loves to cruise in the 80-85mph area and had no issues with accelleration to keep up with the pack or get around yahoos doing the speed limit in the left lane.

Rat - thanks for the info. I agree about the left foot rest - that's been a problem for me since day 1 and my only real complaint. I take a portion of an interstate to work that has really bad concrete joints, and I have to get into the left lane for fear of the SS being jarred to pieces.

My biggest concern traveling this time of year in this area would be the possibility of bad weather.

I'm leaving at 3 pm today for my trip to Pittsburgh. And of course, it is downpouring. And I have a massive head cold. And I haven't slept much in the last few days. :(
