Oddness......

Looking in the classifieds i noticed something i found to be interesting:the number of SS models for sale.

Now, with members saying they love their SS's, why are so many showing up for sale?

I'm still digging my LT Panel tho.........

Probably because the wrong people bought these and are now not interested in them..when I bought mine, had an old couple in line next to buy it..why I dont know as a LS/LT would have been a better bet..also the newer models are out...and maybe needed more "kids" room..

For God's sake the SS is at least 6 years old and many are now reaching miles nearling 100,000 miles or more. Many people sell cars before they roll over as they still think they will not go any farther.

We may love our SS but most of us will not keep them forever. New and interesting cars are now coming out and for some it is time to move on.

God knows the market is flooded with LT and LS models but that does not mean that the people hate them they just moved on.

Don't try to make something out of this that is not there.

Also many of the later SS may be coming of leases too. It is just the cycle of used car life.

Maybe people just want to sell them before they get too many miles on them and their value goes down. Once you get into the six digits range, it can be really hard to sell a car. The longer you keep a car, the less it becomes worth. I've thought about trading in my 2007 HHR for a newer model, but with 175,000 miles, I'd never be able to sell it and I wouldn't get a dime for trade-in price. So I think I'm going to keep it til the wheels fall off, and then I'll get a newer one.

It was once looked at that once you hit 100,000 miles the car was to be avoided unless it was cheap. Today many still feel this way even when it is not true.

Many dealers will send a car to auction if it has that many miles as they know they will have a difficult time selling it unless it was something really special like a 64 GTO etc.

I only got rid of my SS because I got an opportunity to buy the car of my dreams, and it simply wasn't practical to keep it. Had that opportunity not arose, I'd still be driving it.

For some, I think both the HHR SS and Cobalt SS represents an affordable way to buy something sporty and quick, and in the case of the HHR, versatile...kind of entry-level performance vehicles, with tremendous upside to boot. As great as both cars are, from a bang-for-the-buck standpoint, once some people have a little more money to spend, they want something more. Has nothing to do with "the wrong people buying" them, or people tiring of them or losing interest. My SS was perfect for me and my budget for 3.5 years, then things got better for me financially, and I was able to upgrade to something else. But my old SS represents a great buy for someone...it's available on a lot for less than $15k and was cared for immaculately for 53k miles. For someone on a tight budget looking for a fun car with some performance, it will be an excellent buy.

Actually, just checked the site...looks like it's been scooped up!

Lots for sale

Lots for sale not a bad thing. On my hunt for an SS I found about 130 listed across the nation, some good, some high milers. I used the volume to bargain with the dealers. There were 30 or so on the west coast and 3 in the SFO bay area.
They were first stop on Dec. 27th, end of the year, end of the quarter, end of the month, and we were the only buyer in the entire dealership.
What is fun with dealers is the " I'm gonna go look at another but I'll come back" That was worth another $1,000 off. They had the one I wanted (25,000 miles) We got it for trade-in price at a Toyota Dealership.
Buying cars is FUN!

Searching on cars.com for an HHR SS, over 150 shows up. Not all high mileage. Several around 20K miles for 15K to 17K. Having a car with "bad" resell value has its upside when you're like me and buy gently used and keep for a long time.

I've been wanting to move from my daily driver '04 Impala SS into a G8 GT. But those G8s are typically over 20K. Performance upgrades on those V8s aren't cheap either. i.e. supercharger is like 6 to 7K (but with 500+ HP). I'd rather get a ZFR for the HHR SS for less than 2K and have a much better fuel economy than the G8.
