Oil Change Requirements

How frequently should the oil be changed on the SS?
I had the dealer perform the first @ 3000 miles (free) and they put the sticker in the window showing next oil change @ 6000 miles. The way I'm reading the owners manual, it goes by oil life percentage on the DIC or at least 1 year.

I'm sure this has come up before but a search didn't show it.

Answers will vary. Speak with your service advisor and do what you feel best

I personally would use synthtic oil with a turbo and change it every 6000 miles which is a good time to rotate your tires. but like Hill said you will get alot of different views on this. Good luck

Personally I use Valvoline full synthetic, and change the oil around 3500 - 4500miles.That may seem a bit of overkill, but I havent had an engine go on my yet.Ive been doing this since 1984 with all my SS vehicles.

Use a full synthetic meeting the appropriate GM standard cited in your owner manual and change it and the filter every 7500, or go by the Oil Life Monitor on the DIC, which will probably illuminate Change Oil Soon indicator around 8500 - 11,000 miles, depending on driving habits and climate.

Seems to me if GM is going to stand behind the powertrain for 100,000 miles going by the DIC, I'm going by the DIC.

You can be assured, if there is supposed to be a break-in early oil change it would be in writing somewhere so they could cover there a$$.

Edit: Changing the oil early is only putting more money in the pockets of the people selling it and keeping the price of it up for the rest of us.

In absence of any other method of oil performance measurement, use the DIC as an indicator. The SS comes with Mobil 1 5w-30 from the factory, so ensure you use an oil that meets GM Spec GM4718M. Here's a GM published list, current as of 2/08, of oils that meet GM6094M and GM4718M:http://www.andersonperformance.net/o...ts_02_2008.pdf

Good to know it has Mobil 1 in it. My 93 Typhoon had Mobil 1 from the factory and I have always used it. My 07 Shelby is also running on Mobil 1
