Ok ..... on my Early 2.4 2LT GM installed

an heat exchanger/oil cooler. They later made improvements to the internals of the motor & removed the heat exchanger/oil cooler later in that year.

I looked at pictures of a 2010 HHR SS And I see that GM has reinstalled the heat exchanger/oil cooler. This is kind of confusing to me.

If the internal improvements were good enough for the normal aspirated motors, why the change for the TURBO SS?

Have any of the SS owners suffer from bad seals & oil leaks?

The internals of the 2.0L LNF turbo are a lot "beefier" than those N/A 2.2's and 2.4's.
Stock SS's are producing almost 100 more hp than the N/A's. That produces more heat and friction. Therefore, I guess the engineers saw the need for the oil cooler on these high output engines.

And no problems with my cooler or it's seals. I'll bet that the oil cooler used on the SS is not the same one previously used on those early 2006's. Or, it could be the same style but with production upgrades.
I don't recall anyone on this forum posting about a problem with the SS cooler.

The oil cooler seals are known to go bad after 100K miles. How many miles do you have on your SS?

Oh..... also, Is the water pump on the SS in the same place as the 2.4? If yes-where is your second fuel pump located?

The New ATS 2.0 turbo motor has the High pressure fuel pump in the place of the water pump. I know ..... it is a whole different animal.

If the oil cooler seals are going to go bad at 100k miles, then I've got about 12 years till I'll need to worry.
Only have 43k on mine. Bought new, turned 5 years old in January.

WOW .... FiremanGeorge, How often do you drive your car?

There are some people on this site that have 400K miles on their cars.

I was under the impression that a SMALL number of EARLY 2.4 car were the ONLY ones that used the oil cooler.

Do all HHR SS have the oil cooler or did they remove it later in the year,as they did on mine.

With the HIGH PRESSURE fuel pump being right above the oil cooler-it looks even more difficult to remove the cooler.

How many FACTORY HHR SS were made that used the SUPERCHARGER & do they have oil coolers?

It also looks like the HIGH PRESSURE fuel pump is driven off the back side of the cam shaft-Is that how it works or is it electrical?

It's a mechanical High pressure pump.

There were never any factory supercharged HHR SS's. (there were some Cobalt SS's that were)
2008-2010 HHR SS's were all turbocharged 2.0's.

My SS is not my daily driver so I don't drive it a bunch. Also don't drive it in the rain or even when the roads are wet.
In fact, I just filled up with gas today. Last fill up was back on April 2, so no, guess I don't drive it that much.
