Opinions sought...

I live in metro Atlanta. A dealer on the south side of town has a red 2008 HHR SS with 5 spd manual transmission and approximately 5000 miles (although their original listing indicated it had an automatic - the manual shifter was clearly shown in their online photos though.) I have been watching this car for a month or so. It was initially listed for $18,995. Over the weekend, I noticed that the price had dropped to $17,994. The dealership has a "chat" feature, so I questioned someone from the dealership about the car. I asked if it had any problems. The guy online looked it up and said that the car was reported to have "intermittent no start" problems and was repurchased by GM. He said that technicians have not been able to recreate the condition. He also mused about the possibility that the original owner may have not been able to make the payments and made complaints to get out from under the vehicle.

In any event, today I noticed the price has been dropped to $15,994. A $3,000 price drop in one week! That price is very tempting, but I am uneasy about this being a lemon.

Any opinions out there?

Thanks.

Run a Carfax and see what it shows.

Also I don't think "lemons" can be resold.

I thought they either had to be scrapped or salvage titled.

I did run a Carfax report on it, and it did show an "Alert" that the vehicle was a factory repurchase, but that's all the information I could glean from the report. I already was aware of that from my conversation with the dealership rep.

Tell them you'll give them $13,995 & not a penny more! Remainder of factory warranty would still be in effect, correct?

My next question would be if a repurchase for it being a lemon can be resold as an okay vehicle in your state. If so I'd dump on it.

Or the other choice would be to buy it at a low price with a 30 day return guarantee and drive the snot out of it to see if it acts up.

if it has LSD why not buy it?

just have the ecu reflashed, or better yet have them throw in a stage kit upgrade.

Georgia has very strict lemon laws. I'd google Georgia lemon laws before making a decision. I don't think it can be resold, at least with a clear title, after being declared a lemon.

If that's the case then they are either selling it illegally or it wasn't purchased back as a lemon. If it was the second reason I'd consider it with some good conditions in the purchase.

Thumbs down

that is a great price, but if they won't give you -in writing- a 30 day buy back- like was suggested. i would definatly pass. i would probably pass anyway. i don't need any more problems , i got pleny already. the reason i got my hhr was because i thought it would be dependable , economical , oh and one of the coolest bodystyles ever. no start is defenatly not cool.

Limited slip differential not listed as a feature on the ad. Is there a way I can tell from the VIN or by inspection?
