So since I'm not the smartest mechanical mind around I'd like to ask a question, I'm trying to make up my mind if I should buy an SS or not. The question is , does the turbo always "spin" while the engine is running or only when you mash on it? I assume it runs all the time since the exhaust goes through it.

I am no turbo expert, but I believe it spins all the time, but the waste gate closes up when you get on it so that it can build boost.

The turbo does spin all the time,as it's driven by exhaust gas.The wastegate is opened to control the amount of boost as needed or wanted.

For what it's worth the SS is a fantastic vehicle. I have driven just about anything GM over the years and the SS is at the top of the fun-meter.

 

Since we're on Turbos.... Does anyoneknow the turbo's RPM at full boost? I thought I read somewhere that ours can do up to 60,000?

 

i owned an lt2 with the 2.4 and we traded it in for an ss and im glad i did. so much nicer and funner.
