remember ecotec's first dragster by Saturn?

I used to work for Saturn, previous redline ion owner. Anyhow, we had the redline team show up with a custom ion dragster that was rear wheel drive and turbo charged 2.4 L. It was running 7.89 in the quarter at the salt flats in Utah and Max speed was like 217 I think. The point I'm making is that this mega beast was built using the STOCK engine block. Half the water jackets where filled to reinforce the block's walls. It took 32 passes at maced out speeds before the block finally crack. I think it was pushing over1200 whp. Now with this said, has anyone tried anything similar to this but on a smaller whip scale? I have been out of the loop the last 6 years completely due to deployments to Afghanistan.

First, a big THANK YOU for the freedom you have so unselfishly given to us!

I'm hoping you have some pics and more info.

^X2^ Thanks Bushmaster for what you do!
As far as the dragster, I don't recall that one. Hope other members might share some info and pics...

I remember seeing something about a turbocharged SC2 prototype quite a while back before the Ion Redline came out. I was all ready to trade my Satty in to get me a 2400lb 300hp plastic car. Then they dropped the idea and I gave up on Saturn in favor of the HHR.

Don't think I'll ever see those numbers in my street car. 500fwhp would suit me about right.

IIRC that car was still FWD.

Saturn FIRSTs

First FWD car into the 7's in the 1/4
First to use the ECOtec (Lseries)
First to SC the ECOtec.

There have been several S series turbo cars non of them reliable.

You are right. 1 book is $30 aprox and the other $28. One is based on getting the most HP out of an Ecotec engine and the other is about tuning Ecotec S/C and T/C engines the right way from what a local GM part dealer told me.
