Shifting problem N to 1st

Has anyone else had issues shifting from neutral to 1st? Every now and again in the past couple months as I'm driving around it just won't go into first. I have to let the clutch out then try again and it works. I don't have time to take it in have the dealership try to figure out what's wrong and at this point it's more of an annoyance than anything. It only has about 9500 miles. Any feedback is appreciated!

I usually have to go in to second and then it will fall in to first with out effort.

This has happened to me a few times, but like monster said, putting it in 2nd and then 1st usually does the trick. Once, I simply could not get it in to 1st and had to slip the clutch and get moving in 2nd gear, but it's been OK ever since.

The SS doesn't have the slickest transmission in the world, and I think this behavior is fairly normal as long as it doesn't get worse. Many cars I've driven require a bit more effort to get in to 1st gear than any other gear. Aside from the 2-1 trick, often putting it in neutral, letting the clutch out, and then pushing it back in will help align the synchros.

Thank you all! I'm glad to know it's not something serious.

another cure is to rev the engine. when the car is in motion the trans plate must be higher than engine rpm to engage the 1st gear

It is very likely the cable adjustment. Especially the lateral (cable on the left side). Adjusting it is fairly easy, however dialing it in to get the correct adjustment can take a lot of trial and error. The difference in shift quality can be very significant, so it is worth your time to fool with it.

I have not had problem with shift from N to 1 but do have some "behaviours" that I'm curious about. Perhaps I should start a different thread but will try here (09 SS with performance package, eg LSD)
1) Sometime the shift from 1st to 2nd has a soft engage in 2nd. Has never slipped out but doesn't feel as notchy as normal.
2) In 3rd gear get quite a bit of drive-line lash when lifting throttle while driving around 40mph in town. Don't get same thing in other gears.
3) During clutch release get relatively high frequency vibration through clutch pedal as the clutch engages. Only momentary. Not a clutch judder feeling, just a vibration
4) Sometimes get a squeak sound on clutch engage when working up through the gears. Sounds like a belt slipping. Happens maybe 20% of the time, and not at all when cold out (20 deg F).
None of these is a a big issue (though 2 is quite annoying), but would like to know if they are ordinary or I have a problem forming.
Not my favorite manual transmission, but I've been spoiled using a Mazda Miata's shifter. Frankly what this car needs is a good 6 speed automatic. Or better something like the Volkswagon DGS.

I have 18,000 miles on mine, and had some similar things going on as follows.

1) "soft engage to 2nd" mine was similar, now it is fine, so it apparently breaks in (synchros?).

2) 3rd gear driveline lash. The stock shifter would rock back and forth a bit when going on and off throttle, but only in 3rd. For some reason with the TWM shifter and hard mounts, it no longer does that.

3) Never noticed a clutch or releae bearing vibration.

4) Squeak from Throwout bearing. I had that for the first 7,000 miles or so, the dealer noted it and said I could get a new TO bearing installed anytime I wanted to. The noise went away and it has been quiet ever since (cold or hot).
