I have seen many kill a paint job by trying to leave these on all winter.

If you have to buy onw Colgan is the best no question as I have one for my other car.

One cheaper alturnitive to the high priced 3M clear it the new spray on bra. Sherwood Williams has a new product that you tape off the front of the car and spray on for winter protection. It pulls off when your ready to remove it.

My buddy used it last winter on a Saturn and it did a great job.

It is not the coolest looking thing but is a cheaper effective alturnitive.

I will see if I can get the name and post it.
Disagree with nearly everything you have stated here..........
Until I got this Colgan, I have been using "Perfect Fit" by Carbras.com
They are by far the Best Car Bra I have ever used! I bought the Colgan because a Perfect fit has not made one for the HHR SS yet!
The Perfect Fit can be left on the car for months! and I had it on my last 4 cars and never had any lines or clouding or evidence that the Bra was on the car!
The plastic coverings are very expensive! and they yellow over time!
I take the Colgan off at least twice amonth and usually leave it off unless I am going on the Highway!

Tomw-Have you noticed any scratching of the paint where the plastic clips touch the wheel well opening. I really do not like this design. I have a Speed Lingerie bra on my Vette and it is much better than the Colgan.

First, I can not comment on s Carbras as it is one of the few I have never sold or even heard of.

Second, Colgan even will point it out as many good Bra companies they are not to be left on long if wet or long term and you have to keep them clean [This is not my opinion it is what most MFG's recomend].

Only a few compnies like Lebra and other cheapies said you could leave them on and if you have a dark color it is a case of not if but when you will have damage.

Most people who leave them on long term have to leave them on to cover the paint damage.

The company I work for has sold 1,000's of bras from the cheapest to Colgan and have gotten complaints on damage on all lines. In each case the reason for the damage improper long term and wet use.

You may have not had any damage as it does happen but odds are against most in long term use. If you have a dark blue or black the odds of damage go up even quicker.

I will have to check out the perfect fit and see what they are doing different. It would be interesting to see how they deal with the issues the other have problems with.

The Speed Lingerie. is this the new one I have been seeing on Vettes that is all nylon and will fold up small enough to fit in a glove box?

I have seen several of these new ones and it is a good idea. Easy to install easy to carry and very tight fit.

I have kept my VW bra on my Passat for over four years now and only remove it when I wash the car. I have yet to notice any damage or fading to the paint. But, I keep the car parked in the garage and I work nights. So, it is not in the sun a whole lot. I live in a desert climate and sand will get under it. I clean the underside of the bra every time I take it off. The best thing you need to make sure of is that the bra is kept tight and does not flop around when you drive. The only problems I have are with the tabs that fit around the headlights. The dead bugs really pile up. My windshield is sand pitted, but the paint on the front of the car isn't.
I already have a Colgan bra and will install it when I finally get my SS, maybe in another 2-3 weeks. I have installed front end bras on my last three vehicles and have only removed them to wash the car. I have never noticed or had any paint damage or fading. But, for these other vehicles, I bought the bra at the dealer and they were specifically made for the car I put them on. Ya hear that Chevy!! Where is an SS specific bra?

The non-SS bra attaches the same way into the wheel well.

.

I don't have the ss but i put felt on my plastic clips just incase i didn't want it to even have a chance to scratch it. You can get felt from a craft store the has sticky on the back works great.

That's a good idea. I just don't like the idea of having to do it. I am really not impressed with the design of this thing.

The Speed Lingerie bra is very heavy duty and comes in body colors. I had one of the nylon ones, and while it was great for keeping bugs of, it was ugly as sin. Speed Lingerie is the only bra guaranteed not to flap at 150 mph. It isn't cheap though at $500.00 but it is worth it for the Vette. I probably wouldn't pay that much for one for the HHR.

I have seen the Fiero guys modifying the nylon ones for their show cars on long trips. They all have had issues with the regular bra's and have loved these new ones. I have yet to try one.

They only needs them to keep the bugs off on trips and seldom go out in the rain and never in the snow.
