SS foglight bulb upgrade
SS foglight bulb upgrade
I know i prob should look in my trusty owners manual to find out, but are SS foglights the same bulb as non-SS ?
Already have the Silverstars for the headlights , and wanted to match up the lights on the fogs.
Kinda hard to find anything SilverStar in my area let alone fog bulbs, so i'll prob be looking on eBay or other online places to order bulbs, just want to make sure i get the right ones.
Thanks

The fog bulbs are size H11. To get to them, turn your wheels outward for each side, use a panel-popper to get the bottom 2-3 plastic pins out, and push the fender wall back behind the wheel so it holds it in place while you change the bulbs. Switch sides, turn the wheels out again, repeat. Took me waaay too long to figure that out. I went with a hyper-yellow bulb for the fogs and I think it turned out pretty cool.
Thanks, just wanted to know if the SS type fogs had the same bulb as the non SS (since the fixtures looked different)
And ya, i'm no stranger to getting to the bulbs after swapping out the headlights already (watta PITA
)
I was spoiled with how EZ headlight/turn signal bulbs were to change on my Silverado, open the hood/pull the pin/remover the bucket /change the bulb.
I'm hoping the Silverstars last longer in the SS than they do/did in my truck. gonna have to get new plastic fender things if i gotta swap out bulbs too much

Silverstars have a very short life. Blue tinted bulbs are generally a bad idea for any number of reasons, aside from looking like a ricer. Filament current (brightness) and life are inversely proportional. Tinted bulbs must jack up the current to compensate for the light loss in the tint. Not only does life hit the skids, but heat goes up as well. Many people burn up sockets with juiced up bulbs.
In Md. it is illegal to have a tinted ( any altering film or spray ) headlight bulb, but an HID setup that makes a bluer light is legal ( as I was informed by a friendly LEO ). You may want to check your area.
I had Silverstars in my old Saturn SL2 for a year or so without issues, then I crashed it and burnt out the bulbs. The Silverstars in my dads Grand Cherokee and Moped are fine.
And it doesn't matter if bulbs have a long life, you should still replace them every couple of years because they get dimmer as they age. My Infiniti M30 had original bulbs from '91 when I bought it, yea they still lit up, but they were really dim.
