SS Hood Insulation Question

I was at a dealer on saturday checking out a SS and noticed under the hood that there was no insulation.I have never seen a GM car without one as far back to the 70`s.I was wondering if they come like that or did they forget to put one on this one only.

Intentionally Absent

The ones that I have seen are also sans hood insulation but the cabs themselves are heavily insulated. My guess is that GM wants the engine noise to be easily audible. The exaust also is louder than most.

I noticed the lack of insulation also Saturday when I was checking out an SS. I assumed either due to the different aircleaner and other differences I saw under the hood it was not used or needed. Perhaps they want more motor noise and less sound reduction, or as we used to say its "light weight for racing".

Good then if the SS doesn`t need one then mine is coming off I hate the look of those things after a few years. You can`t realy clean them the tear real easy.I will just clean under the hood with the power washer and wax it once a year better than looking at a road kill 5 years from now.

GTO, I took mine off shortly after I bought my HHR (probably been off for almost two years) and I haven't had any problems. People mentioned that the paint on the hood might start to discolor or bubbly from the heat of the engine but I haven't seen any problems.

I had my hood replaced last year, and the new one didn't come w/ the insulation. So far no probs.

I don`t think there should be any problem from the heat either it`s not going to get hot enough and it shure will look cleaner.Well I stopped typing and just removed the thing piece of cake didn`t even mess up the fastners there is 7 inches of clearence from top of engine to hood.I also put that thing on a scale the road kill weighed in at 3lbs 9 oz.
