Welcome to the site!

The lack of insulation is a new pilot program by GM on continual baking of the hood paint.
It is also aids the police in determining if you drive to fast...as measured by the amount of discoloration, the brown around the edges of the hood are a dead give away of a hot rodder who pushes the pedal to the limit.

Daniel! They probably leave the insulation off the SS to make it a millisecond faster!

Holdin' the Heat

Possibly it is uninsulated so the heat is dissipated quicker rather than holding the heat like an oven, since the turbo likes cooler air.

Hoodliner?

Has anyone thought about adding the standard HHR hoodliner to reduce the clatter from the direct injection high pressure fuel pump and injectors? They do seem a bit noisy at idle, and I wonder if the hoodliner would help aborb some of the clatter. The SS doesn't have one, I've read about the engineers wanting more turbo noise to satsify "the Tuner Crowd" so I figure thats why no hoodliner.

why bother, just more dead weight to haul around, its a performance car, enjoy the sounds it makes.
