SS Nightmare

Well Hello there after looking on this forum for the past 2 weeks I decided to join and tell all about my experience with my 2008 HHR SS.

So here we go 2 weeks ago today I picked up my brand new HHR SS Silver and in Auto. I got it from a dealership here in Dallas TX. I took it home that Friday night and everthing was great I was enjoying all of the features that my new car had to offer and couldnt wait for the next day to drive it again. So the next day was Saturday and I needed to go to the neighborhood conveince store. As I was walking out I used my remote start. It started for a second and cut off.I thought thats weird so I get in the car and turn it on and notice a check engine light on and the dash reads reduced power. Well later on the lights go off and the car runs fine again. So the weekend passes and Im out driving on Monday when the same thing happens again. So I immediatley take the car to the dealership where I purchased it. They hooked it up to a vag and said it was some boost sensor code and reset the computer. So Im thinkin no biggie and drive of and free to cruise again. Well what do I know it does it again same check engine light and reduced power message comes on. So I take it back to the dealership on Tuesday and they tell me to leave it with them and that they would fix it. So I leave it and call them a couple of days later when they explain to me that a sensor is out on the vehicle and that there were no parts available for it at that time. The service advisor also said that the part would have to be pulled from the assembly line and it could take several weeks to get it and that there was no guaranteed timeline. So here I go to *****in and calling GM's customer care trying to put pressure on them to get the part. So meanwhile everyone is trying to get a hold of this part and they tell me its ok to drive the car it wont hurt it and theyll be in touch. So I take the car and all of its 80hp and drive it like that for about 1 week . I finally get a call from the service advisor stating they have the part and come in. So I take the car there they put me back in a loaner and said it would be ready the same day. So here we go again I pick up the car and drive it for about an hour when what happens again you guessed it the check engine light comes on and reduced power is back on. So back to the dealership I go first thing in the morning. They said it pulling the same code and some others. And that there might be loose turbo/intake/vacum lines or a bad turbo.Well anyways they the tech told me he tightened down all hoses and lines and installed an ECM update from GM and that he drove it for 60 miles and that everything looked great. So I was somewhat pleased with what he had to say and had been talking to GM daily to see about getting a different vehicle. I wanted to give the Dealership 3 trys to fix the car before I really got pissy with everyone including GM. So back to the story he said that during his 60 mile trip that he was hard on it and that everything was fine. So I picked it up last night and was happy it seemed to be faster and I hadnt noticed any kind of problems what so ever with it. But Im sure you can guess what happend again. Yes your right the car lost all of it boost and the check engine light came on and it said reduced power once again. So here I go again Im pissed off now I call GM and tell them Im tired of Fnnnn around and to get me a new car and that Im sick of this POS.The lady at GM told me she was going to forward my paperwork and she would have a response in 72 hours. But I talked to the head Service Mgr. at the Dealership and he told me it would be very difficult to get a new vehicle out of GM and that they needed to have the opportunity to fix it. I said in a firm voice to him well how many damn opporunities do you need. And he just kind of looked at me. Well guys I hope I didnt bore you with my story but this is whats going on with my 2 week old HHR SS.

Thanks,
Sanddragger28

I'd be checking the Texas lemon laws if you want a new one.

I agree. Here in Oregon I think it's three times with the same problem in a certain time frame, not being fixed and you can start the lemon paperwork.

This is the first horror story I've heard. I feel for you, I would be really really pissed. I just backed out on a deal on a 08 Silverstone with an auto trans today. I looked at it wednesday the dealer had just gotten it in and it had 18 miles. They were prepping it as we worked the deal. Before we got the deal finalized they said there was some kind of problem with something, dont ask me what. But that they could order the part and it would be ready to pick up friday. I said fine didnt figure it was anything serious. So today I get off 2 hours early and call them to make sure it was ready and the salesman said it was and they were just road testing it so come on out. I was getting it at a dealer near my parents house about 70 miles away. So I'm almost there when the salesman calls and says I hope you havent left yet because theres still a problem. It still has a check engine light. I told him I was almost there and would wait at my parents and to call and let me know what was going on. So two hours later he still hadnt called so I called them and was told the salesman had left for the day. Needless to say I was not happy. They got the sales manager for me and he said he would check on it and get right back to me. He called 5 minutes later and said they had to order another part and it would be ready tuesday. At which point I said they could keep it, if it had this many problems before even leaving the dealer I didnt want it. I'll probably still get one but definetly somewhere else ! And hopefully a good one, LOL. Good Luck

man I feel your pain.
next time you need to rant tho you might want to add a few lines of paragraph space. Hard to read when copy is so dense.
Good luck with the lemon law thing.

Here's some info on the Texas DOT's website:

http://www.txdot.gov/services/motor_...aw/default.htm

Sounds like it's quite a process down there, but I'm afraid it sounds like you have a car that's going to be quite difficult to repair in the near future.

This is a business website but it gives a pretty good rundown of Texas' unique lemon law procedures and timeline:

Good luck!

Too bad Chevy doesn't have the same Dispute Settlement Board that Ford has. I had no power steering in a F250 Crew Cab Diesel truck. The dealer worked on it at least 12 times (I was very patient). They bought it back from me, paid me for the $7k worth of extras and even paid the interest on my loan! I had the truck for 1 1/2 years. I thought that Ford had treated me right so I bought a new Explorer. The vibration dampening weight on the transfer case fell off going down the highway at 70mph! Had to replace the drive shaft but the vibration was never completely fixed so I filed my paperwork again and they bought that one back too!

I counted myself very lucky and took my money to Toyota and bought a 2000 Tacoma Double Cab w/Supercharger!

It'll be really hard for me to buy another Ford but at least I know there's a way to resolve problems with them.

Welcome to the club.
Sorry about your problems. At this point I would insist on a replacement HHR SS. They had their opportunities to resolve it and obviously did not.
In today's hi tech world there is access to factory tech's for help with a problem like yours. No excuses.
The dealership should of been kissing your " a*^"
Good luck and let us know how you make out.
