SS Wheel Insurance from Dealer - Worth it?

I am happy to say that I will be picking up my new 08 HHR SS tomorrow from the dealer! Rumored to be one of the last 2008 red manuals in the midwest (according to my sales guy, so take that with a grain of salt).
My sales guy warned me that the sales manager will attempt to sell me 10 other insurance policies when I pick the vehicle up (I guess I have 'sucker' written across my forehead). But my sales guy said I should consider the wheel/ tire insurance for $480. It covers bent/ scratched rims/ blown out tires.
Initially I dismissed this to be just an additional comission for the sales guy, but then I read the previous post about someone's husband who scratched the SS rim up and that got me thinking.
What are the forum's thoughts? $480 saved on this insurance would certainly be a nice down payment on custom rims should something ever happen to the stock ones.
Thanks!

What is the deductible on this insurance, if any?

I would think your auto insurance should cover the majority of any serious issues like bent wheel or blown tires. If you get some scratch or something I can't see how saving $250 on a new rim (or whatever they cost) can justify you having paid $480.

Now if you plan to scratch all 4 in time then sure..

Personally, I never buy extended warantees for anything.

Sounds like a cash grab to me. If you F-up a rim, buy a rim when the need arises. Or see it as a sign to buy 4 new aftermarket rims!

I'm also skeptical of any extended warranty on anything. My dealer tried to talk me into the extended warranty saying "I'm a big believer in extended warranties." I replied "I'm a big believer in buying quality products from the start. Are you saying you're not selling me a quality car?" That pretty much ended the conversation.

Will they cover damage that you did? Such as hitting a pothole and bending it, will they replace the rim, or will they put you at fault and not replace?

A bit like Discount Tire's "certificates." They're betting you don't damage anything. You're betting you do. Maybe watch the potholes a little more closely and you can save some money. Or... if you are a curb-whacker (like my wife, who is not allowed to drive my vehicles for that very reason), it may be a deal for you.
