I use my HHR SS for business, but got the Stage 1 upgrade for recreation purposes between project sites.

Although it's still late spring here in the NE and ambient temps do not go too far above 90F until summer, I have been in bumper to bumper traffic on the warmer days and not seen the coolant temp rise anywhere over 210F. It typically hovers around 192F.

The kicker is that my last 150 mile regional business trip (a day trip), combined hwy, bumper to bumper traffic and city driving yielded a solid, no BS 31 mpg. Not bad when the EPA numbers for the stock SS is 29 hwy.

I wouldn't discount your mechanic's viewpoint, because they may be referring to a different stage kit, possibly for the Cobalt.

100 miles daily. Only had kit this week. Still can't get the MPG with my foot in it all week. Stalking ricers and Mini's is easy now. WOW what a difference in the Auto. 24psi is unreal. Love it Daily still

My 09 has the stage 1 and I drive it everyday. No problems yet and the temp stays around 210 at its peak. My only issue is I cant keep from hammering the throttle.
