Gosh, I hate to be an alarmist, but if you are going to try and get the charge reduced, you should immediately delete all posts here.

The keystone of your Miranda rights is the constitutional protection afforded you against self-incrimination. Any lawyer worth his sheepskin will tell you that the less you say, to less people, the better.

I'll gladly delete this post too if you take my advice, as should anyone here who's quoted you.

I should not have, but I did.
I just never thought it was such a MAJOR violation.
I looked it up and it says that I could serve up to 90 days in jail!! The only thing worse on points is DUI or Injuring someone (yes, I know I could have, I am beating myself up already). Also as SPPD said, it's a criminal offense (something like that), and will go on my record... Future job hunts, etc.
In my view what I did was stupid, but jail time? Criminal? I sure don't think that is justified.
I will contact a local attorney and see what they say.

Thanks for the support and (justified) wrist slapping.
Yes, this is a misdemeanor, and a very light one at that. Breaking the law means that you are a criminal, and when you're given the responsibility of operating a 4,000 lb. piece of equipment, the State is going to hold you accountable for your actions. It may not seem like a "big deal" to you, but people have DIED because people like you don't think drag racing is a big deal.

FWIW, I'm a public defender. I spend my days dealing with people who don't think driving drunk, smoking a little weed, and smacking the old lady around isn't a big deal. None of them think they have committed a crime worth going to jail over, even after the third or fourth time and they ARE headed to jail.

Grow up. If you can't handle the responsibility of safe driving, do us all a favor and stop driving.

Many times I have resisted temptation....believe me! My "other" hot rod....the LS1 powered 1935 Ford seems to draw more attention than my HHR SS does. Almost EVERY time I pull up to a red light some clown in a late model Mustang, or something similar, pulls up and starts messin' with me. It is hard to resist, but I can, it isn't worth it.

It's really a shame that we lost almost all of the dragstrips in Southern California California.

I don't understand it. As a kid, I went with my dad to OCIR, Ontario, Lions, Irwindale, Bakersfield, Carlsbad...just to name a few. Man, those were the days! But then the land they were on became worth millions, and...you know the rest.

Sorry about your bust.
This thread has opened my eyes a bit. Drag Racing seems and sounds so harmless, But it is a big deal. I saw a show this past sat. or sun. about street racing in cali. on speed vision. It was pretty bruttle, parents coming across a fatal accident , and realizing in traffic its their sons car, bad scene.

And in this day and age : higher insurance rates, fines, loss of lic. NO THANKS !

I've got no excuse , there are tracks not to far away. I've never been to one, but I've done quite a bit of drag racing. I'm gonna change that, i finally see it just is'nt safe, things happen, the best drivers in the world make mistakes. They happen. I'm gonna try and chill out on the streets, but it will be hard, like trying to quit smoking - not to good at that .

Someone in S.cali needs to get some partners, and build a few real tracks in some key locations, sounds like they could run events every day. $$$$ imo
Thanks for reading.

It's sad because HRP has one of the best 1320's in the country.
