I know I can do a google search of turbos to get some info, but I was wondering if anybody here knew of any good sites that discuss the turbo in general layman's terms (with pics of course). I have to admit, I love cars, and know a lot about the basic internal combustion engine, but I am a turbo virgin . I don't even know what a wastegate is. Any suggestions to help the turbo impaired?

BTW - info on the HHR SS specific turbo would be even better!

 

well, howstuffworks.com is always a great site for eplaining things, and not just car stuff. i remember reading and learning the basics of how a turbo works back in high school on that site, and if i remember correctly, it was pretty dang good.

The wikipedia page had some good introduction to turbo design, so after reading it I feel a little more proficient in how a turbo operates. I even know what a wastegate is for!

One of the issues historically associated with turbos is the lag, and my supercharger friends always bring this up. What specifically did GM do to reduce the lag issues with the 2.0 engine?
