Thoughts on this setup for the SS?

So I plan on picking up a set of new rims which will be 18x8 with 38mm offset. I want to place a set of Conti DWS on them but of course the 225/45-18 that Tirerack suggests are on back order. Do you think a set of 235/45-18's would still clear? There is a member here who is running the 235/45-18's on his SS but on custom 18x7.5 rims. A couple of site members I've been talking to seem to think they would still work. Tirerack themselves have not been very helpful other than stating that they only suggest a 225/45 and since they don't currently have Contis in that size would I like some Michelin Pilots. Ummmm, NO! So what do you guys think?

with 8" wheels definitely 255X40 conti's I mounted one on mine it fit except my wheel to narrow. would be awesome what you doing with the take offs, mine came with pre curbed wheels on it.

I just bought the OZs which are 18X8 and will be putting on 245/40s on them. It will clear no problem. Which rims did you get?

Those are going to look short if he's not lowered like yours

:clueless:

I do not want 40's as for the reason posted above. I'm asking whether you think there will be issues with the 235/45's. As for what rims you will just have to wait and see :D The stockers will be kept as backups and for winter.

SS fan 02-14-2011 10:57 AM

Think it will work if it gives you the sidewall appearance you want I like them square but I'm old the kids seem to like them rounded. Do we have to make the picnic to see ??

255x40 same height as 225x45

discount tire say's they have the conti in 235x45 I would have them mount one see how it fits !

Also your current wheels are 18" x 7.5" with a 225 tire! We have always thought the standard 225 tires looked a tad narrow on a 7.5" rim and you will be going to an 8" wide wheel! We think the 235 tire will look better than the recommended 225! There recommendations are usually factory size based (hince take this size off and put the same size back on)!

You will be fine with the 235/45 man no problem.

But they don't have the rim that I want and that is where the question lies. The extra 1/2" in width of the rim and the difference in offset. As stated one member is already running these tires on their SS but on an 18x7.5 rim.

So that makes 3 members so far that think they will be ok :thumb:

My vote is still 255x40 it is the only reason I would consider new 8" wheels

bartSS 02-14-2011 11:17 AM

Here is the comparison from stock to what i have now. So my sidewall is basically the same

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/45-18 4.0in 13.0in 26.0in 81.6in 777 0.0%
245/40-18 3.9in 12.9in 25.7in 80.8in 784 -1.0%

and here is the link to it

Not yet. But thanks for answering the question :twothumbs:

If you already have a 7.5" rim with 42mm offset and are going to a 8" wide rim with 38mm offset it will leave the backside of the new rim where it is stock and put the outside lip .5" outward! We just wouldn't go with the racks recommendation of a 225 on a 8" wide rim! How about like Bart said and do 245 40's and add some Pedders to AO?

Another thing to ponder about the 235's on the new rims is they will clear everything but how about rubbing the fenders especially the rears when loaded?

ps; really sorry for my negative thoughts but I know that comes from being a true pessimist, (the glass is half empty theroy).....

Nope. Not practical for the kind of weather and type of roads we have around here.

WOW, that looks sharp! And that is the same General tire we have only in a 225 x 45 x 18 on a 7" wide wheel! You might re-consider the 245 x 40 Dayton ? We always thought a 8" wide wheel looked good with a 245 wide tire!!!!! And the Generals were a Top 4 rating, good for Summer tire!

Nadda, I'm pretty intent on the DWS and the 245/40's are on back order as well.

you chose yourself a popular tire

HHRSSouth 02-14-2011 03:33 PM

Don't be fooled man, the General Exclaim HP (the ones I have) ARE M+S rated. I don't know why some sites don't list them as such, but M+S is clearly on the sidewall of my tires
By the way General and Continental tires are made by the same company :twothumbs:

Father Azmodius 02-14-2011 03:35 PM

Tirerack had 245-35-19 in stock the last time I checked, and some great deals on wheels for the Solstice/Sky.
