Timer noise

What is the timer sounding noise coming from under the hood while the SS is idling? It's not a motor tick or anything, it literally sounds like a timer. When I shut it off it sounds like something closes or drops. I you haven't heard it before, sart up your SS and listen to it idle, I bet you'll hear it =-) Like I said, I don't think it's a problem, just want to know what it is!

Since I can't hear the noise I can't be sure, but it is probably the purge solenoid. There was a thread about this before and other SS owners were hearing it. It's normal to hear it because it means it is working.

Good! Glad someone else is hearing this too! Guess I should have used the little search button, oh well that other thread was a long time ago. A good time to bring it up again!

I believe what your hearing is the Direct Fuel Injection. Don't know what's dropping out after you shut it off but I hear it too

isn't it just the belts stopping when you turn the car off, that what i always thought the dropping sound was, and yes the ticking is the direct injection.

I think Chadpuska is wrong its not the belts it happens like 3 or 4 sec. after the engine is completely stopped all the way... So it's not the belts.

clicking

direct injection is the cause of the sound, there is also a secondary fuel pump that is noisy, capable of over 2000 psi
