track time

this friday we have a test and tune nite at our local drag strip. I am looking forward to this. the only mod I have done was a stage kit, and I am expecting to run in the low 14s or high 13s. If it ran in the 13s that would be fantastic but Im not realistically thinking it will, but I should get better traction at the track. The wife and I have set a challenge for the lowest et. If anything it will be a fun nite for us both. For the rest of the summer they will have a test and tune every other week I think, so next time I will have more mods. Has anyone else done this ? if so do you shift into 4th or just keep it in 3rd

I have only the stage kit on my SS as well. The 13's are very possible, but you will need different tires. Also I was shifting into 4th just before the line since I was certain that I would have run out of RPMs and hit the fuel cut off.

My best time was a 14.0XX. Tons of tire spin in 1st, and my reaction times were terrible.

Good luck and keep us posted on your times.

I may have ran mine once or twice the stock tires well putting it nicely suck for traction, but I think you should be able to hit your goal.....I tend to short shift into 4th to get back into power before the line you will just have to see what is working for you at your track.....goooood Luck

With an excellent launch and the slightly higher RPM of the stage kit 3rd gear through the traps is possible. However, spinning the tires very much at all will all but guarantee you have to go to 4th or bounce off the limiter.

Like someone else mentioned, better tires and high 13's are pretty easy.

did anyone try lowering air pressure to get better traction and if so what pressures did you run

I lowered mine from 32psi to 26psi in the front tires and to me it made seemingly no difference. I think that the stock tires are just to hard of a compound to ever really give good traction regardless of what you do.

2.5 60fts seem to be the norm w/ our SS's .

Lowering the pressure in these stock Michelins would likely do very little other than decrease high speed stablity. Mine have 20K+ on them now and still look brand new. Not a sport compund for sure.

Something not mentioned yet is the LSD is a MUST if you're going for 13's. I haven't seen one yet without it, but I think they are actually available minus LSD (for some rediculous reason....should be standard option)
