I had to drive 2 hours to buy my 5sp and didn't regard it as a big deal to get the car I wanted.

Yeah, it's more important to get the car you want, even if it means waiting a little while to get it.

Can you still have cars custom ordered from the factory? I remember my parents had that done with a Silverado once...but that was probably 6 years ago.

What Mgr states is fact.

I did my deal on the internet while at work.

I told him what I wanted and we got to the price I wanted. We had agreed on a loaded SS.

They went on a search and it too two days [this was at the end of July when supplies were low] but they found one.

I am in Ohio and they were trying to get me and checked as far away as Atlanta GA. We finally found one in Dayton when I changed to black when I could not get the color interior I wanted in the red one.

I never had to put money down and just had to go in sign the papers pay my money down and hit the road.

A good dealer will do the work for you if the one you are dealing with won't there are better dealers to be found.

I also did the same on my GTP in 04 when I found it on the web and drove about 2 hours to save $7,200 off sticker.

The web make shopping smart so much easier and faster.

Also if you can't drive a 5 SP SS local drive a Cobalt SS if they have it. The drivetrain is the same. The car will drive a little better due to less weight and lower center of gravity but you will get the idea.

Im from lower maryland and looked for a 5 spd and couldnt find one within 200 miles. this was back in june of 08. so i had to order a 09 hoping i liked the manual transmission since all i could drive was the auto. definately was worth the wait for it. took about two months of bumming rides. lol.

I would have taken a dealer trade if mine could have located a Victory Red SS with auto. and factory roof rails during the numerous 250 mile searches he did with no luck. SS with roof rails seems to be a rare combo for dealer stock units in California, I used chevy.com to search out the whole state and came up empty as well so we went the factory order route. My TPW is this week - fingers crossed!

You should have come to Ohio. When I wanted one without roof rails on a loaded SS all I could find was with roof rails. That was the thing I had to cave on in what I wanted. It did not effect my pre agreed price.

I was good with Black or Red but I just could not get one with out the rails.

I still hate washing around them but at least they blend in on a black SS.

For what it is worth I got mine on 26 Jan from Jim McKay in Fairfax they had to go to Suffolk VA to get it. I got an 09 Aqua Blue SS, upgraded stereo, brembo's, sunroof, 5 speed, so they can be had.

I know there is a Silver SS with all the same stuff on it in Warrenton VA but they are waiting for transmission parts to fix it. I guess someone just test drove it a little too hard.
