Guy was asking 15,000 has a slight tap Chevrolet said timing chain. So I bought knowing I had to replace that The 2.0 LNF has the Direct injection and High Pressure Fuel pump which can make some loud ticking or tapping noises. Almost everyone that listens to mine idling with the hood open, ask if I have a valve ticking or something. |
Check how

You might want to check that a little closer before committing to a chain replacement.

The chain noise is normally only when cold, goes away after warming up. I doubt it is bad at 32,000 miles. I would get another opinion.
|
For the timing chain , pop off the front cover , check the guide and pop off the valve cover look for slack between the cam sprockets

much thanks
Well today I started this monster let it warm up to operating temp. Tap went away or stopped may be a better way to put it. Then had a cycling noise. Not sure what that is. But tomorrow after work I have to go to the tag office to transfer the title and get her tagged. So after work Tuesday I'll go to chevy to have them listen to it see if its normal to sound the way it does. Only 32,000 miles I seem to agree with you guys.Again thank you

I would not put my trust in the bozos at my local dealership. YMMV.
|
Even when new, motor sounds like a ticking time bomb at idle
|
No codes, been taken care of, 32K on clock. Use it. I have 50K on my SS, bought it used at 20K, no problems and it's my daily driver. Postman syndrome (neither rain, sleet or gloom of night) Change the oil/filter every 4K with synthetic.
If you want start taking an oil sample before each new oil change and send it out to a lab. The results will tell you what's normal and what is not. |

The cycling sound is from the High Press Fuel Regulator that is normal. The clicking sounds is the injectors, sounds like a diesel. Also when first starting cold there is a cat warm up cycle that it goes through that does make some strange noises. |
DI engines are quite audible at idle. I commute home with the windows down, and sometimes pulling up to any new car I know has DI (like alot of Hyundais) you can hear the audible ticking sound they make. Its probably normal.

Replace the stock front engine mount with a solid one (if it hasn't been done )
I got the TurboTech Racing mount several years ago. Vast improvement. Have you read the owners manual ? The SS allows several options on using the traction control and stability systems. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...bb698d69d7.png |

Oh yeah. Forgot that you've got a tune. Disregard my post above because your tune may have changed the stock settings and perimeters.
But. The upgraded engine mount would be a good investment if your's still has the stock one. |

His problem has nothing to do with this. Correct it and then spend money elsewhere.
His post #32 about torque steer above. Changing the front mount does help with that. I changed mine. Help reduce torque steer. Also eliminates any of the "wheel hop" if he has that. |
Does the HPFP have the insulator in it ? To suppress the noise?

Does it have an LSD?
