You might want to check that a little closer before committing to a chain replacement.
The 2.0 LNF has the Direct injection and High Pressure Fuel pump which can make some loud ticking or tapping noises.
Almost everyone that listens to mine idling with the hood open, ask if I have a valve ticking or something.

Chet043 02-11-2018 12:31 PM

Check how

How would you suggest checking ? I drove up there heard the ticking and passed on it. Then the gentleman took it to Chevrolet they told him it was the waterpump. So I told him if he changed the water pump and it quit ticking I would come buy it. So he has a mechanic change the water pump got it all back together still ticked. So the mechanic to stethoscopes with a probe on it went around the motor and says it was on the timing chain cover he could hear the tap. So how would you suggest a check farther I don’t have a clue. I was going to buy the timing change stuff here in a minute. The gentleman I bought it from did say it taped like that since he bought it

Nice numbers! I know that shop very well, your tune is in amazing hands!

donbrew 02-11-2018 02:24 PM

The chain noise is normally only when cold, goes away after warming up. I doubt it is bad at 32,000 miles. I would get another opinion.

Oldblue 02-11-2018 04:22 PM

For the timing chain , pop off the front cover , check the guide and pop off the valve cover look for slack between the cam sprockets

much thanks

Well today I started this monster let it warm up to operating temp. Tap went away or stopped may be a better way to put it. Then had a cycling noise. Not sure what that is. But tomorrow after work I have to go to the tag office to transfer the title and get her tagged. So after work Tuesday I'll go to chevy to have them listen to it see if its normal to sound the way it does. Only 32,000 miles I seem to agree with you guys.Again thank you

donbrew 02-11-2018 08:27 PM

I would not put my trust in the bozos at my local dealership. YMMV.

MIKEYfixit 02-12-2018 02:22 AM

Even when new, motor sounds like a ticking time bomb at idle

Cat Man HHR 02-12-2018 06:47 AM

No codes, been taken care of, 32K on clock. Use it. I have 50K on my SS, bought it used at 20K, no problems and it's my daily driver. Postman syndrome (neither rain, sleet or gloom of night) Change the oil/filter every 4K with synthetic.
If you want start taking an oil sample before each new oil change and send it out to a lab. The results will tell you what's normal and what is not.

Nice find.:thumb:
The cycling sound is from the High Press Fuel Regulator that is normal. The clicking sounds is the injectors, sounds like a diesel. Also when first starting cold there is a cat warm up cycle that it goes through that does make some strange noises.

aradmahogany 02-12-2018 11:27 AM

DI engines are quite audible at idle. I commute home with the windows down, and sometimes pulling up to any new car I know has DI (like alot of Hyundais) you can hear the audible ticking sound they make. Its probably normal.

Being curious, how so ?

It's called a catalyst heating function. It spins up the the turbo and and adjusts the cam angles to get heat into the cat. Some have disabled it, I tried once but it made the cold idle erratic so I enabled it again. I didn't feel like jumping through the hoops to get it to cold idle better with it disabled.

how can I keep this monster in a straight line? I’ve driven lots of front wheel drives. But none with this power and toque. It’s all over the road. I need much help do not like being all over the road. Thing is a rocket a crooked launching rocket but definitely a rocket. I know there is something that I can do but not sure what. Thanks for any kind of help or suggestions

Replace the stock front engine mount with a solid one (if it hasn't been done )
I got the TurboTech Racing mount several years ago. Vast improvement.

Have you read the owners manual ? The SS allows several options on using the traction control and stability systems.

I Hit the traction control button twice it goes in the launch control stutters it like 41

firemangeorge 02-13-2018 09:18 AM

Oh yeah. Forgot that you've got a tune. Disregard my post above because your tune may have changed the stock settings and perimeters.

But. The upgraded engine mount would be a good investment if your's still has the stock one.

His problem has nothing to do with this. Correct it and then spend money elsewhere.

???
His post #32 about torque steer above. Changing the front mount does help with that. I changed mine. Help reduce torque steer. Also eliminates any of the "wheel hop" if he has that.

Oldblue 02-13-2018 02:55 PM

Does the HPFP have the insulator in it ? To suppress the noise?

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...397c445f2.jpeg

Injector Pump Noise Reduction Cover 12628069

Might be the source of the noise

DrLoch 02-13-2018 03:59 PM

Does it have an LSD?

Chet043 02-13-2018 04:35 PM

Traction control off launchs pretty straight. But I’m still going to do that solid mountl and probably the rear sway bar thinking about some coil overs but I don’t see any specifically for this car
