what type of oil??
I thought I would put my two cents in. I am still "old school" on the subject of oil. I drive quite a few miles per week for my job and the oil stays in the crankcase most times for less than a month. Therefore the whole synthetic thing does not make sense. I use Valvoline in my HHR...
From one paper ive read, mobile one is on the low end of the scale for the "better" syn oil.Not saying there is anything wrong with it,there really isn't if routine oil changes are kept. When it first came out they were on top of the world..but thet didn't keep up.Why mess with a good thing I guess..but others came along and improved it.Royal purple..Amsoil..Redline.much better..more pricey too..all depends what "YOU" want out of your oil.Everyday go getter..Mobil one no problem..I still use it.For something I want to protect i'll use one of the others mainly Amsoil..I have seen what this oil does under high heat so I use it for the Turbo and for my air cooled bike.Sure mobil would work fine and know many people who do..but I prefer that little bit of protection the others add.Its not about whats better..its about what conditions are you using it under. Heck.I still use Valvoline(Walmart under Tech Lube name) in my 300k truck($7 5 gla jug?)
Nowadays there really isn't a "bad " oil so to say.Do they do all thats claimed??Who knows..ask a chemist.Do you reeeeeeaaally need that high milage oil(with the higher price tag) or will reg everyday reg priced oil work just the same? Lessee,20 years ago when 200k was becoming the norm we didn't have all this designer oil and we did just fine.Nowadays the engines and materials are way better and last much longer and the oils are much better hence the 8k oil changes.So..use what you feel is corrct for "your" application..if your runnin groceries.reg oil is fine..if your runing red lite to red lite..then maybe you'd be better off with a higher end oil....Just food for thought....

I have pulled apart several motors running conventional oil, and all have had some (minimal) deposits on the underside of the pistons. The one motor that ran syn oil had zero deposits or discoloration anywhere on the pistons. Since the SS sprays oil on the underside of the pistons (for additional cooling required by high boost levels) I figure it is worth running synthetic. Not to mention warranty requirement.
The $89.95 Mobil 1 oil change at the dealer is a price breaker. When a regular oil change is $26.95. I asked WTF is with that price as I can get a 5 quart jug at Walmart for $21. The service guy said to bring in your own oil. I think having the dealer do it, me with a $20 coupon, it cost me $4.95.. they supplied the oil filter (I hope). So my cost was <$27 after all the sales taxes etc. I almost couldn't do it my self for that.
