Question Who does this.....?

Those members with the SS, or any other DIRECT INJECTION vehicle......

Who has had their oil analyzed, what was the mileage on the oil and what was the results relative to fuel in the oil?

The only thing that I have seen posted was on the hptuners forum. A guy posted the blackstone report he had done at 45,000 and there was no trace of fuel. The oil had been used for 5,000 miles.

I had mine analyzed last year. The amount of fuel was high, but I hadn't really warmed it up as much as they suggest.

Fuuny you should ask though, because this past Saturday I changed the plugs, oil, and front brakes. I took a sample and will be sending it in next week after I get a sample from my Trailblazer this weekend.

I just looked at the report from last year, and it shows 2.8% of the sample was gas. This was after 5,000 miles. Everything else looked good.

I'll update next week when I get the results from last weekends sample.

You are right. It goes IN there. .. But where it comes OUT of is another question entirely!

OK, I got the test results back today. I sent samples in for both my 2002 Trailblazer with 153,000 miles, and the 08 SS with 50,000 miles. Each sample was taken one week apart following the exact same warm up procedures, etc. The TB is my DD and gets much harder use. The SS in my wife's DD, and while she's not the smoothest shifter, she doesn't drive it that hard.

Long story short, the fuel % in the SS increased from 2.8% at 30,000 miles to 3.8% at 50,000 miles. Everything else looked good, but they told me to watch the fuel as the recommended % is <2.0%. For reference, the TB has been at <0.5% each time it's been tested.

FWIW, the oil has been changed every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1, and I replaced the spark plugs with this oil change. There was evidence that it was running a little rich by looking at the plugs.

Oil analyzing is a ok but really means little. Most people get it done but for the most really get little out of it.

If you use a good quality oil and change it as you should the car is going to get you many many miles regardless. Same with Tune ups just do them as instructed.

Odds are if something is wrong the damage is already done anways.

I find that most places that check oil do it to either make money or market a product.

This is really not like a colonoscopy that will prevent much or do much to change the outcome. If you are running that rich you would know with a fouled plug of the smell of the exhaust with the check engine light on.

If your bearings are that worn the oil pressure will show it. Even if they find it in the oil it would be to late anyways. It is normal to have a little bearing wear and fuel getting into the oil. This for the most is why it gets dirty and why we change it and the filter. Blow by is just a normal product of cylinder combustion.

If you like doing this it will hurt nothing so go ahead and do it. But the truth is it will not really make much difference either.

I usually agree with most of your statements. But in this instance it's apparent, from what you said, that you know very little about oil analysis. And that is the key to an analysis......understand what the values, or combination of values, mean.

rgraboske......

I would suggest changing oil a little more frequently, especially in a DI engine. That will move the dilution to a lower value. But it's your choice.
