I never noticed where the light is in non-sunroof cars. Mine is behind the back seat, so I dont think it would shine to the front seats. Besides, my switch broke and I got a new unit from my dealer. To save time, I said I would install it myself. What a pain in the a$$. I never could get the back tab in-I had the dealer finish it off when the car was in a few weeks ago for service. And the mechanic said he had a very hard time getting it back under the head liner. I dont think I would want to play with it again

Domelight Turn-around

I know you only need about 4" more length on the wire but, are we all sure there is enough wire to pull in all the models? I'd hate to pull the harness and have something break at the switch or in the windshield post. That would truly suck, eh.

Answered my own question.

Yep, there's just enough wire once you pull it free from the glue. I just finished the turn-around and trippled my available interior lighting. I highly reccommend the mod.

I was going to turn mine around, but have decided to just rewire the thing. I'm going to by pass the push button switches, and run the same feed that powers the back half to the front half. That way the whole unit should always be on and off with the dome lights. I have no desire to ever use the push on and off reading lights. I'm able to drop the dome light housing below the head liner. I just ran out of time today.

The end result of the mod is that the "back seat lights" are modded to have the map lights (push on/off) face the rear, and have the "main" light facing forward.

How far did you have to reach in to unglue enough?
I was up to my elbow breaking the glue as far forward as I can but it seems it is still stuck further than I can reach.
My automatic light is aimed basically forward but the wires are still too tight for it to be 100% straight.

Did you have to just pull at them until it totally broke free and just hope for the best?
Do you have hideously long arms?
Just a little more precise description should help me get it correct.

There have been some writeups on this previously. Without looking, it would seem that this becomes a trade-off - doesn't that mean when you open the rear hatch at night there is no light shining to help you find what you are looking for?
