MANY OF YOU HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE WIPER TRANSMISSION LINKAGE.
HERE'S A DIY HOW TO REPAIR THE BALL SOCKET THAT POPS OFF LEAVING YOU WITH A ONE SIDED WINDSHIELD WIPE.
YOU CAN REPLACE THE POWDER COAT WITH RUST PAINT.
I COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED THE LINKAGE EXCEPT FOR THE MOVEABLE LINKAGE. (THE PLASTIC PARTS CAN'T TAKE 400F)
RAMP UP TO 400F
PRE-HEAT BEFORE POWDER COAT
BAKE AT 400F FOR 20MIN
AFTER BAKE COOL DOWN
PAINT MOVEABLE LINKAGE PARTS
TAP OUT BALL AND DRILL SOCKET (CLEARANCE FIT FOR THE SCREW THAT YOU CHOSE)
INSTALL SCREW WITH THREAD-LOCKER ON THREADS THROUGH SOCKET INTO BALL. RUBBER SEAL FILLED WITH GREASE BEFORE ASSEMBLY.
OPPOSITE SIDE REPEAT PROCEDURE AND INSTALL SCREW WITH THREADLOCKER ON THREADS THROUGH SOCKET INTO BALL. RUBBER SEAL FILLED WITH GREASE BEFORE ASSEMBLY.
THREAD LOCKER APPLIED INTO OPPOSITE SIDE OF HOLE TO PREVENT SCREW FROM BACKING OUT. IT WILL LEACH DOWN INTO SCREW THREADS.
OPPOSITE SIDE REPEAT THE PROCESS. THREAD LOCKER APPLIED INTO OPPOSITE SIDE OF HOLE TO PREVENT SCREW FROM BACKING OUT. IT WILL LEACH DOWN INTO SCREW THREADS.
ASSEMBLY COMPLETE AND READY FOR INSTALLATION INTO HHR. NICE AND SMOOTH TO OPERATE.
LINKAGE INSTALLED.
COVER AND WIPER ARMS INSTALLED.

Well I guess I missed something too.

Hmm. Last time I used the stuff, it went on the screw threads. Never seen it used by putting it on the screw head.
I have used my wife's finger nail polish to lock the heads down. I think the pic is of the threaded end, but threadlock blue does not work that way; it has to be on the threads not the end.
Tap out what ball? How? Why? Did you purchase a ball? Where? Part number?
1. Tap out the ball that receives the plastic socket (use whatever you have handy 10-24, 10-32 etc.) I used 10-32 because it's what I had in my hardware stash
2. I put thread locker on the threads and also on the other side of the screw. It leached down on the threads from the other side.
3. I didn't put thread locker on the screw head (that's just....STUPID!)
4. You can't get the plastic sockets as a replacement part.
5. I used the original parts and purchased nothing.
6. I thought the photos were self-explanatory....sorry about that.
