The return spring is in the handle. If it doesn't return maybe you put it in wrong or not at all?

Ah, the old school method of operation, a metal rod instead of a cable and flimsy plastic

@PattiS : like Oldblue & donbrew said, if we're talking about this interior handle connection, check out what @Oldblue posted in the other thread with very nice photo of where the latch arm should meet the cable, which has the plastic collar and sleeve at the door handle end and is the common breaking point of the interior handle itself, another reason I'm going to try the metal handles. In my case I had the plastic collar break off the end of the sleeve, once upon a time, and so I was trying to reattach the cable using zip-ties in sub-zero weather (earlier in this same old thread, actually, however many years ago).

Good fix and documentation man.

Any idea on why the handles break - other than being weak? Are people using them to close the door from the inside rather than using the indented finger grip in the doors armrest?

No that pretty much covers it.

Well, THAT, and just having the door get away from you while opening it in 50mph winds only popping the latch from the inside handle and then having the door whip open before you can intentionally & gently let go of that interior handle, so it clacks back into position harder than it should... Just saying, it does happen. It's stress over time breaking the plastic handles. I'm hoping the metal ones really do hold up better but mainly replacing mine to avoid the plastic/chrome deteriorating into sharp edges. Same thing is happening where top of my gear shift lever has its chrome peeling up on the forward edge and getting sharp to touch
