Arrow How to Remove the Roof Rails

For those of us who don't bike or surf, and travel light, here's how to get rid of those roof rails.

Tools needed: Puddy knife, Flat head screwdriver, Torx bit

These slide off from the ends, they DO NOT pop up. Take your time and use the puddy knife to separate the ends.

Now use the puddy knife to pry up the end so the base gasket wont get stuck, and use the flat head to keep prying. Be gentle, it's only plastic.

Revel the Torx bolts, and undo them. The rails lift right off.

You will be left with threaded holes that can be plugged with 5/16" caps or use an M6 1.00 Metric bolt to screw in the holes. I will post up the finished look when I get there. Be sure not to leave them open, if rain gets in, it could rust the inards at some time.

Don, I don't think I'll ever need them... Let me see if I can't come up with a fair price.

Hey T,

Any chance of gettin a shot of the room after the removal? I wanted to get an idea of where the holes are located. Also, how hard was taking the headliner down?

Yeah I'll work on getting a pic showing the holes this weekend... Didn't need to get the headliner down for this job.
