2007 LT2 my first Chevy

Hi fellow HHR enthusiasts:

Two months ago, I had out-of-town family pick up my black 2007 heavily-optioned HHR LT2 with 60k miles for $8995 that I purchased online. I just drove it home a week ago. It had previously been repossessed! Hence, it had only one key (which my relative lost, so we had to start from zero and get them all reprogrammed) and no owner's manual. It needed an oil change, and I just changed the cabin air filter which was grimy. I'm working up to changing the air filter. The driver's mirror had a bite taken out of the plastic, the remote mirror switch didn't work, the rear washer doesn't work, and the sunroof has the broken runner for the wind deflector (and a piece is broken off the wind deflector, too). I've had the mirror and switch replaced, and will get the rest fixed in the next few months. I've already bought (but not installed) a lower grill, TTR rear sway bar, dual horn, and LEDs for all the lights in the back. I'm getting lower mileage than I expected, particularly at over 70 mph but around town as well. I got 25mpg on my latest tank of almost exclusive highway driving and I have a manual transmission! So, any suggestions on things I should be doing now? I do plan eventually to get a short shifter (my other car is a Honda S2000 and I'm spoiled that way).

Welcome-

Yes, I'd be checking the Air Filter. You can find many repair proceedures here in the: "How To" section.. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-tutorial-library-21/

And I'm sure either a chevy dealer or ebay will have on owners manual.. Theres a lot of stuff, to get familiar with..

Best Luck, sleeper

owner's manual

Thanks for the owner's manual information. However, I had two months after paying for the HHR to get ready before I picked up the car from my relatives. In that time, not only had I discovered the online owners manual, but also I bought a used one on eBay inexpensively. I also bought the extra keys I needed (including pink fobs for the girlfriend) and the LED tail/brake lights, sway bar, and lower billet grille mods before I ever drove the car! The Chevrolet dealer in Republic, MO (near Springfield) is AMAZING. When I mentioned that I had purchased the owners manual but it didn't come with a slip case, the parts manager simply HANDED ME ONE!

Only after getting the car did I discover the four broken items (and two burned-out bulbs which I replaced). It seems that whenever something broke on the car, the previous owners ignored the problem. I purchased the correct driver's mirror used (with the chrome cover) and the dealer got a replacement mirror switch, and those were both installed for the same $65 labor, primarily to remove and reinstall the door panel. I still have to get the sunroof and rear washer repaired. It took a while before I noticed the problem with the rear washer since I don't use it very often.

Hooray another Black HHR! I've had mine a week and I love it. When I was looking I was surprised how many for sale had high mileage - now I know why. I just love to drive it!! It's good that you are handy - I'm not - I almost had to come on here to ask how to open the fuel door! I was down to using The Force when my husband figured it out.

sunroof repair

Thanks for the sunroof information. I had seen this before, and had considered using an aftermarket, external wind deflector. I used to have a 1997 Subaru Legacy with sunroof problems and went to an external deflector and it worked well. However, since this car is new to me, I have decided to pay extra for the stock repair (per the technical service bulletin or TSB referenced elsewhere on this forum). Dealer will do that for (a relatively low) $278 labor, plus $15 for the new rails. Unfortunately, in addition to the sunroof rails, one of the removable ends of my wind deflector assembly itself is also damaged. Chevy only sells the complete replacement assembly (I'm still looking it as a used part). Also, while he has the headliner off, for another half hour of labor the service manager is willing to run a wire down to the computer and install a 2009+ combo sunroof control and dome light assembly. This will help the lack of light in the front of the car. I'm finding it helpful to fix or upgrade two things when it works out that they can be done with the same labor charge.

Welcome from Sunny SoCal!

And to the HHR familia!
GREAT color choice!

I too have a black/gray 07 2LT and have about 27K on it -- NO problems other than the sunroof issue too. It is not an OEM part, hence why they need to replace the whole thing. I have had no problems since then and my sunroof is ALWAYS open.

Also, you may want to consider just taking off the back winder wiper (aka, the SoCal rear-wiper-delete). Here in CA at least, it is superfluous and most of us just took it off. Cleaner look!

I love my baby and hope you do too!
