Exclamation Hello and help!

Hi everyone I am new to this, I love my Chevy HHR . I have a 2008 lt loaded chrom package, I have a question. I am moving from fla to Pa . Mine came with a factory installed luggage rack on roof but no cross bars. Everyone wants 200 - 300 for cross bars. I am in a pinch recently unemployed and cannot afford. My question is. How do people use the luggage rack with out the cross bars? Did they all come like this? I need to transport cargo on the roof

I can't recall ever seeing one WITH the cross bars. Seems kinda silly to have the rails and not include the bars. Not sure what your seating needs are while moving, but these little cars will swallow a BUNCH with the seats laid flat.

Welcome to the site and hope you find what you're looking for.

Smile Luggage rails

Has anyone found a way to use the luggage rails ?? If so , how??. Thank you Daytona blues am folding the seats flat . Just me and my 2 kitties. I have a Bike which I am dismantling and putting inside clothes, a lot of suits. I box of CDs 1 box of computer equipment. 1 5 foot cat tree. I just purchased a RightLine rear cargo saddle back for the back hatch. It holds 14 cubic square feet. Most rooftop bags hold 15, I want to be able to see out the windows. This bag is great because I will get better gas mileage . It has a slot to put your license plate. It is completely water proof. And it is low enough so u can still see out the back window. You don't need a luggage rack with this bag. You can get the bag from target wal Mart .sears. I got mine from amazon. It is patented so no one else has it. It is called " pack right " . But again what do people do with 2 side rails only ?

you can purchase the bars and use them with a roof rack...was just saying that I've never personally seen one equipped as such. From what I gather, your price research looks correct, which isn't worth it for me personally.

Although my HHR came with the side luggage rack, I've not used them. If I were to, I'd just get a "fish" net to cover the luggage up there held in place with some bungee cords. Remember the passenger front seat also folds down flat for storage places inside the car.

I had a Ford Explorer with the roof rack and cross rails. We(4 people) took a trip once and I needed to put stuff up on the rack.
The cross rails were basically in the way as far as loading was concerned. I moved them all the way to each end just to get them out of the way. I should have just taken them off for the trip. I just put the cargo bag on the roof and strapped it down to the side rails.
If the load isn't too heavy, it shouldn't hurt to sit directly on the roof. Maybe put some kind of pad under it and fasten securely.

I have crossrails on my HHR. they were worth the money, I bought them off the forum. they basically prevent whatever you load on top from touching the roof of the car...

IMO if you use it a lot, they are nice to have. they slide forward and backward too.

I have seen 'universal' crossrails cheap on ebay..

I think some could be easily fabbed with some angle iron (old bed frame) or etc..

Just sayin..
