Figure out where you'd like to end up and what you'd really expect out of your mods. Plan it out so you don't end up having to duplicate work or replace anything you just installed. Ask a lot of questions about what you plan on doing, there's a lot of people who may have done those mods already that can tell you if it will perform or look as well as you'd hope it to.
