First time I've seen an actual Homing Pigeon. This guy (or gal) showed up in our neighborhood this afternoon, first saw it on banks of our pond. He seems to have declared our next door neighbor's garage as a hotel room for the night, plus they had some wild bird food on hand and put out a spread of bird feed for him along with a dish of water, both of which he had been helping himself to before I went and got the camera. With a full stomach and having flown Lord knows how many miles today, he kept nodding off as evident in the 2nd pic. Very tame, would let you get within a couple feet. Tags on each leg, a red one and a green one.

Guessing he's a participant in a cross country race, who knows. Might be from a couple states away.

 

Does he drive an HHR?

 

No, but I heard he put a 'deposit' on one!

Tracked down the coding on one of his leg bands. Looks like he's from just south of Cincinnati. We're in south west Indiana, and Cincy is about a 5 hr drive, so this bird flew for awhile. Hopefully tomorrow he'll depart, climb to altitude and cruise on home!

Is he still hanging around? Or did he take off to Mexico to pick up his new ride?

 

He departed today around 4:30pm and hasn't been back, so my guess is he's enroute to his destination. He spent the past two days and nights in our garage, fueling up on bird feed and water. He was actually careful not to cr@p on either of our cars the entire visit.
