4th generation Viper? I thought there was only two generations.

Very nice car. How does that 620 HP handle on the street?

This is the 4th generation viper... 3rd was from 2003-2006.... hp is increased but mpg is up to around 16/17 and the gas guzzler tax decreased also...handles like a viper should with unbelievable amount of torque with no nanny contols and excellent in the twisties... pretty much outperforms the Z06 in every category tho hopefully the zr1 can keep up

There is also an acr version of the viper this year with improved aerodynamics(rear spoiler that adds 1000lbs of downforce at 150mph+), the rear spoiler is 4 way adjustable as is the suspension depending on track versus daily driver needs ....

The car has a whole new sound this year as well.... also the car is a bit harder to mod than previous years because of dual cam,vvt , emissions and a more complex cpm... there is one company ... belanger that has been able to produce headers that don't trip the check engine light

headers alone have increased bhp by 50 do if anyone is able to come up with a tune for the 08 viper then that will help....the cars are set to run rich from the factory

I dunno:

ZR1: 620 HP/595 lb-ft.
Viper: 600 HP/560 lb-ft.

ZR1: 3100 lbs.
Viper: 3400 lbs.

I think the power-to-weight ratio and the balance of the Corvette's front engine, rear transmission layout could have the Viper beat. It would simply come down to the driver's skills at that point. In addition, many Z06's have a plethora of power adders on 'em and they're still a formidable opponent for the Viper on the track. ZR1 was reintroduced to retain the "King" status for another couple of years. Nobody in this price range really cares about fuel mileage, but neither the Z06 or ZR1 have the gas-guzzler tax. Very efficient powertrain on those LS engines.

Regardless, I've always liked Vipers too. Especially the first/second generation ones that were inspired by the AC Cobra. I almost bought a '92 back in '01 when I graduated from college. The dealership wanted only $28k for a mint car with only 33k on the odo. I was working a cush job in IT for a major telecom company and could've easily done it...

I decided to go to law school instead. Now I'm a public defender and I drive an HHR. It's a cruel world.
