I learned the meaning of 'admonish' at an early age (along with the meaning of "This is going to hurt me more than it does you"). My protestations of this abuse (by today's standards) was deemed nugatory.

Listening to the news, I would have thought it was "soaring". Gas prices soaring, taxes soaring, unemployment soaring, mass transit fares soaring, inflation soaring; everything was "soaring". Got sick & tired of the word.
