Great gas milage, better for a young woman to drive than a young man (image wise :) )

5 star front impact, 3 star side impact

I would say overall it's an okay car to be in. I am just not a fan of such tiny cars. I would rather have more car to protect me in case of an accident, but from what I see, they aren't bad. I wouldn't buy one, but to each his own.

i can you give you a bit of insight on this since my wife own's an Aveo. It is not a car either of us would have picked but her car was dying and he dad bought her this one. We didn't have a choice but we also didn't have to pay.

Is it an 05, i think that was the first model year for them? Hatchback or sedan?

We have a blue hatchback auto 40k miles and here are my impressions on it.

overall it's alright, but like i said i wouldn't pick it. the newer ones are better looking, and have better options. the first year they came out they were pretty barebones, Ours is the highest model you can get so we can at least have power windows, doors, etc.

the gas mileage is not as good as everyone says and is far from what they put on the sticker. 32 or 34 mpg my a$$. The best we have ever seen in it was probably 30, and that was rare, Heck i can do that in the hhr. Where we live now, is a mileage killer, and she is getting 20 or below. In comparison, I am getting about the same in the hhr, our town sucks...

the car is cheaply made and is LOUD. I can hear everything that is going on outside. The radio sucks. the seats are ok, but not that nice. It holds a good amount with the seats folded down, but still not that big. Power is lacking big time. the windshield wipers on ours is rusting, the arm is...

the good things - you can parallel park that thing anywhere. heck you and a friend could pick it up and move it sideways into a tight spot...

it also got us through one of the worst blizzards i have ever been in on the highway. But that's because of driver skill as well since the guys with 4x4s were in the ditches...

for the one you are look at, if it has 76,000 miles on it, then it has lived a rough life, that's almost 20k a year. we have driven my wife's a lot and we're still on 40k, and i don't know how much longer it will last.

there have been some recalls on it and problems here and there. nothing major yet, but i'm just waiting. It makes weird noises (sounds like a meat slicer...) sometimes that no one can figure out what it is. Just replaced the stock tires on it (benefit, the tires are so small they are cheap, 375 for 4 of them out the door.)

anything else you want to know? Feel free to ask on here or PM me. I can probably answer most of them.

But the short answer is unless the new ones are way better then the one we have, i would not consider buying one, and buying a used one with 76k on it, the same as ours, no way in hell.

I'm pretty sure I remember someone saying that the only reason they made this car was to boost the overall MPG rating...

Thumbs down

New ones (2009s) are much better and have had very few problems, on this one I would PASS. We sell a lot of the 09s and have seen minimal problems.

I would still buy something a little bigger for protection.

One of my co-workers has one. It's a basic grocery getter and she hauls hay with it to the farm. Those cars are pretty cheap so it better be a heck of a deal to justify that many miles on it.

Isn't the Aveo a re-badged Suzuki? Or, at least, built by Suzuki? If so, bear in mind that Consumer Reports does not recommend any Suzuki as a used vehicle. Their new vehicles do about average in their rating, but the used ones just don't make the grade.
