The Americans

Anyone remember this song by Byron MacGregor? It's from the 70's but still applies today ... http://www.myspace.com/woot1woot2

It just proves how stupid our government is and that we should take care of ourselves before anyone else.

That was definately different and refreshing. Give that man an ATTABOY and a pay raise. CH I kind of agree with you but I dont think we could be effective if we adopt an isolationist position. Maybe somewhere in the middle is the real answer. I do firmly agree we should take care of our own first.. Note: CH I am not implying that you suggested the isolationist position, I feel that we can do both at the same time, putting the emphasis on our problems first, then helping with other countries problems. Well I guess that , after re-reading your post , I agree fully... Sorry been a long day and its just starting..

Nah, I don't think we should isolate ourselves. I just think we should take care of problems at home before helping others. It sounds kind of mean but like that song proves most others aren't there to back us in times of need. We do things like try to solve AIDS and hunger in Africa but we can't even take care of them in our own country. I think America has dug ourselves into a deep hole over the years lending support to the world and not concerning ourselves with problems here at home.

I think it may be a double sided issue too! Our government does not want to look like its in a position that it needs aid. I'm sure there have been offers of aid turned down.

True. I can definitely agree with that. I could see us turning down aid just to save face and not appear needy.
