Any other areas having this problem
heard twice this week on the news about thieves not breaking into construction sites and junks yards stealing Catalytic converters from cars and trucks.

Have heard about them being stolen for the metals or something inside of them but not specifically from construction sites.
Maybe the thieves around here need to wise up instead of trying to get them off personal vehicles?

They are hitting the 15 passenger vans around here. Because of their high ground clearance they are able to quickly crawl under them, cut the converter with a cordless sawzall, and their gone 3 minutes later.
Bad thing is these are Churches and Daycare Centers that are getting hit. $800-$1000 repairs don't help their budgets out.

Around here they're stealing copper from air conditioning units. Some businesses have been hit more than once. They've also attacked churches and schools. As far as I know, not a single arrest has been made.

A friend of mine had the catalytic converter stolen of her 4Runner while visiting her mother in a hospita. The security video showed a Suburban park next to her car a bit of light coming from inside the Suburban and in less than 5 minutes it was gone.

Search for catalytic converters on eBay. Go ahead. You'll be amazed. They all sell too.
Not only that, but syphoning gas is passe' now. Just push a pan under a car's tank and punch a hole in it and collect the gas in the pan.
