There was a mention earlier in this thread about Saving Private Ryan, the combat scenes where really accurate, the damned sound of the rounds passing and hitting was spot on...I do have one problem wth watching military movies, I forget that they are movies and start complaining about the details, improper uniforms etc...
I have a fereind who knows WAY to much about history and he's always pulling you out of the movie and complaining about inaccuracies. Now days I just lend him the DVD and we talk about it later. He wants accurate medals, hair, swords, etc. I want to belive I'm there so I like effects that work rather than alienate.

Like in Tora Tora Tora, he's all happy about the uniforms and more, but I find the ship effects barely better than what I see in a Three Stooges flick when they show model ships in an obvious water tank.

Back to the Vietnam flicks, I did like Tom Cruise in Born on The Fourth Of July. I usually don't care for his flicks, coc*tail anyone?

I thought it was a good movie, but I really liked that Mickey Hart and the Rhythm Devils did the opening track

I don't know what film you're watching but Apocalypse Now opens to silence followed by chopper blades fading into the The End by The Doors.

The film was originally supposed to be scored by Coppola mainstay David Shire. His final score was not used in favor of Carmine Coppola and Mickey Hart's synth and percussion score.

Film Composition and Sound Design
Current collaborations with Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzman [Grateful Dead Drummers, Apocolypse Now score], Mike Gordon [Phish], Zakir Husein on Planet Drum and Rhythm Devils as well as with Chris Vrenna ...

I thought about it after and he didn't used Mickey Hart and the Rythm Devils in the original but he used one of their songs over the end credits when he recut Redux.
