While this is a German affair, I would have been less surprised to see an American liberal come up with an idea such as this, basically because the United States has the highest divorce rate in the world, while Germany is not even in the top 35. Her plan is to make married couples to re-evaluate their partnership after seven years. They can either extend it or dissolve it at that time.
I'm really questioning her motives, though. Is she suggesting this for the good of the people, or to try to break the Catholic hold of their politics. Hmm... IMO, both reasons are great, and the latter is one of the best for the greater good of the people. Religion should be nowhere near politics, but the Vatican is, in my views, more of a political establishment than a religious city.
But, since it's a different country, there's not much need to worry, I guess..
