Black Friday @ Chrysler - PT Engineers Targeted
The news reported that last Friday was a "Black Friday" for about 2,500 Chrysler salaried workers.
What they didn't mention was that the casualties included EVERY engineer that had been previously assigned to the PT Cruiser. Many of them had been reassigned to new design teams for "pending" projects for 2012, which were then cancelled.
Sucky week for automotive engineers.

Word.
Chrysler LLC is going to become nothing but a brand holding company that sources vehicles from other manufacturers. Sad but true. I bet everything short of truck and minivan production is eventually cut and outsourced to other manufacturers. They already have a deal with Nissan that I'm surprised Mitsubishi is letting them get away with.

I was searching the internet for more details on this but the most recent engineering cuts I could find for Chrysler were announced in Nov. 2007.

Not sure where the source was. My wife told me when she came home from work on Monday, and there's kind of a "midnight howl" communication network among engineers in the auto industry. She may have heard about it from classmates in her distance-learning engineering class at Univ. of Michigan, since most of her classmates in those classes tend to be engineers from across the industry.
