Blade Runner

Is anyone else picking up the Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition of Blade Runner today? Blade Runner is undoubtedly one of the greatest films ever and the briefcase packaging is awesome!

In the packaging you get:

The limited edition numbered Deckard briefcase that it comes in
A Spinner car replica
A Unicorn figurine
Illustration and Photo cards
A Lenticular Motion Film Clip in Lucite

And the disc break down:

Disc One
RIDLEY SCOTT'S ALL-NEW "FINAL CUT" VERSION OF THE FILM
Restored and remastered with added & extended scenes, added lines, new and cleaner special effects and all new 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio. Also includes:

Commentary by Ridley Scott
Commentary by executive producer/co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher and co-screenwriter David Peoples; producer Michael Deely and production executive Katherine Haber
Commentary by visual futurist Syd Mead; production designer Lawrence G. Paull, art director David L. Snyder and special photographic effects supervisors Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich and David Dryer

Disc Two
DOCUMENTARY DANGEROUS DAYS: MAKING BLADE RUNNER
A feature-length authoritative documentary revealing all the elements that shaped this hugely influential cinema landmark. Cast, crew, critics and colleagues give a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the film -- from its literary roots and inception through casting, production, visuals and special effects to its controversial legacy and place in Hollywood history.

Disc Three
1982 THEATRICAL VERSION
This is the version that introduced U.S. movie-going audiences to a revolutionary film with a new and excitingly provocative vision of the near-future. It contains Deckard/Harrison Ford's character narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) "happy ending" escape scene.

1982 INTERNATIONAL VERSION
Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version.

1992 DIRECTOR'S CUT
The Director's Cut omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famously-controversial "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant.

Disc Four
BONUS DISC - "Enhancement Archive": 90 minutes of deleted footage and rare or never-before-seen items in featurettes and galleries that cover the film's amazing history, production teams, special effects, impact on society, promotional trailers, TV spots, and much more.

Featurette "The Electric Dreamer: Remembering Philip K. Dick"
Featurette "Sacrificial Sheep: The Novel vs. The Film"
Philip K. Dick: The Blade Runner Interviews (audio)
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Cover Gallery (images)
The Art of Blade Runner (image galleries)
Featurette "Signs of the Times: Graphic Design"
Featurette "Fashion Forward: Wardrobe & Styling"
Screen Tests: Rachel & Pris
Featurette "The Light That Burns: Remembering Jordan Cronenweth"
Unit photography gallery
Deleted and alternate scenes
1982 promotional featurettes
Trailers and TV spots
Featurette "Promoting Dystopia: Rendering the Poster Art"
Marketing and merchandise gallery (images)
Featurette "Deck-A-Rep: The True Nature of Rick Deckard"
Featurette "--Nexus Generation: Fans & Filmmakers"

Disc Five
WORKPRINT VERSION
This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. It includes an altered opening scene, no Deckard narration until the final scenes, no "unicorn" sequence, no Deckard/Rachel "happy ending," altered lines between Batty (Rutger Hauer) and his creator Tyrell (Joe Turkell), alternate music and much more. Also includes:

Commentary by Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner
Featurette "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut"

I suggest picking one up ASAP while you have the chance. I don't know about anywhere else but Best Buy has it on sale for $55 this week. I'll post some real pics of mine when I get home later.

It is F'n awesome! I ended up with number 47,769 of 103,000. The above pics don't do it any justice once you hold it in your hands. I'll post better ones later.

The film clip looks kind of weird because my cue ball is holding it up. That's why there's a white reflection in the middle of it. The film clip is cool. As you move it you get a close up of Harrison Ford.

Yeah, Nice package.
I love just how much they give you. I'm glad you were able to get it. Great film. Rutger man, he ROCKS
I 'm going for the Blu ray version. It does not have all the packaging, but I really just want the movie, all five versions

I own so much stuff from various collections , running a video rental business, that I just do not have the time for it all any more.

CH, I'm still selling off all my seven thousand video rentals and I have yet to send you a list of the horror ones. Sorry about that. The horror DVDs are still in storage boxes, I've been selling the other styles ( Drama, Criterion, Kurasowa, etc, ) first and saving the horror for last. Life has been getting real out of hand here, have not had time for much of anything except survival.

Hey, you seen Pan's Labyrinth yet? I hear it has some wonderful imagery, but is not for children despite the main character being a child.

The fifth disk is what sucked me in. The Ultimate Collectors Edition is the only way to get the work print of Blade Runner on regular DVD. I love the packaging but I didn't really need the Unicorn, Spinner, or most of the other stuff. It's kind of like my Anchor Bay re-release of Re-animator that came with a neon green fluid filled highlighter shaped like a syringe. I'll never use the highlighter but I really wanted the DVD so......... I guess one day I might get the strange urge to toss on a lab coat and play Herbert West. When that day comes my highlighter is ready for action.

I haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth yet! I love Guillermo del Toro too so I'm just being an ass. I also heard that it's pretty brutal in a few scenes. The main thing that's holding me up is the wife hates foreign language films without an English dub. She'll watch just about any foreign film I toss at her as long as she doesn't have to deal with subtitles. It kind of sucks some times because I have to go back and re-watch the film without her to listen to the original language track because you know as well as I do that a bad English dub can take away from the film. Ichi the Killer is a great example of that. It's just plain weird watching Japanese actors with British accents. If it's subtitled only like Pan's Labyrinth I have to watch it alone. If it's straight up in another language without an English track or subtitles like some of my films (Mostly Category 3 Hong Kong flicks like The Untold Story) forget about it.

For some strange reason I stayed up and watched Robocop II tonight

I never thought it a bad film when I watched it at the multiplex those many years ago when it came out. But I must have been having a good night out with friends Does not hold up, and must never have been even close to a decent fim.

It only held together in a few places, but it is always great to see Tom Noonan. I even rewatched a bit of Last Action Hero just to see Tom.

It's all about the first Robocop. The original is great but the others not so much. I have the unrated Criterion Robocop.

I got the 4 disc Blade Runner set at Christmas.

They only had the HD-DVD version of the 5 disc set and since I don't have an HD-DVD player and will not get one until the "VHS vs Beta" round 2 is resolved, it didn't make much sense to drop the money on it.
