Our Terrain didn’t include a trailer hitch or trailer lights harness, so I can’t test that theory.

I only saw that trick for a Ford.
If yours has the selector on the gear shift you can do what shmoo suggested.

Our Terrain has the five button switch gear selector and yes I see the L indicator
