A/C fill port Shrader core?

Mr. B has asked for your help! (me too)
He has repaired the A/C unit in his pick 'em truck, GMC Sierra S15. Recharged it and thinks it's leaking at the Shrader valve core in the fill port.
I have cores available to me through my work but don't think I have the right type.
Mr. B took it out and says it's it has a clear band. The ones I have arent that color.

What does this gang have to say?

The truck is a 1987 although I would think the year is irrelevent as that core is probably the same for any year make or model vehicle.

I think the real problem is Mr. B needs you to buy him a new truck. If I remember my pnuematics correctly, a Shrader is a Shrader. Perhaps a junk yard would have what he needs? Sorry..auto parts recycling firm.

I agree with the new truck theory! I also agree, a shrader is a shrader! However, I know there are different pressure ratings for them.
I was concerned about the type of gas used to recharge the system. Will a regular shrader hold up to it? (Mr. B did the conversion from Freon gas to what ever that new stuff is now days R-12?)

I found THIS page which deals with the different systems and parts and retrofitting to the new generation system. Not sure if it will help...but it sure has a ton of information on it.

He converted from R-12 to R-134a if the truck was an 87.

Thanks for the help gang!

Deb, I'll have MR. B read that article this next weekend. We work oppsite shifts and don't see each other until the weekends. (we get along better that way) ... and he's clueless when it comes to the computer, I've got to help 'em with that!
