Do you Believe?
When I was working in the early 1970s in an old building on the second shift, there were only four of us in the building and there were many "creepy" things that went on at night. I always felt someone was watching me and it seemed that doors would open and close by themselves. I wasn't the only one who felt that way. There was a Nigerian student who worked there and said that the building was haunted. The management went over a photo book of employees and he picked out the "ghost", a former employee who had committed suicide a few years before the student started working there. It really got creepy there if you were the only one in the building. So I'm a believer.
I was living in an furnished apartment (second floor of a house - owner lived on the first floor) back in the mid-80s in Norfolk VA, and it had a big old box 25 inch console television. It was the old rotary dial channel changer type with the on-off built into the volume control knob. Pull it out to turn it on and push it in to turn it off; turn it right to raise the volume, turn it left to lower it. No remote control.
When I moved in I found the TV was unplugged and plugged it in to be sure I did not need to buy one. It worked fine but only picked up 6 local channels with a set of rabbit ears, and a UHF loop antenna.
About a week or so after moving in, the console in the living room would turn itself on and raise the volume very loudly almost every night around 1am. It would wake me up and I'd go in and turn it off and go back to bed.
After a few nights in a row I ask the guy I was renting from if the TV was broken. He looked at me kind of funny and asked "You plugged it in didn't you"?
I told him I did and he looked up at the second floor and told me that his parents used to live there for a few years before they died. Once his mother had passed away, his father had trouble sleeping and would watch TV into the wee hours most nights.
He asked me if the TV was coming on at 1 and it came on loud. I told him that it came on and the volume got louder once on.
He stated that his father was hard of hearing but would refuse to wear his hearing aids as they "hurt his ears".
He told me that he thought it was his father's spirit still in the house, and that the best thing to do would be to unplug the set before going to bed.
I started doing this but would find that when I plugged it in the next morning that it would come on and the volume would be as high as it would go. I started just pushing in the knob and turning it down before plugging it in in the morning.
Nothing else ever happened there other than the odd cabinet door being opened in the kitchen once in a while.
I lived there for a year before moving in closer to where I worked (still working there to this day).
This is what sparked my interest in the paranormal.
Cheers

The Question for me is Do I Believe
Back in the mid 80s I worked in an old warehouse that was converted to cold storage to supply navy ships during WW II, on Sunday's I was the only one in the building, there were people walking on the upper floor all day long & people walking up & down the stairs, for the first month I would walk the building looking for these people, the noises were the noise people make when working, never found any reason for the noises untill I mentioned it to others & they had had the same experances, twice I had a person walk across the room behind me problem was nobody had been in that area that day, ask me do they exist & I know they exist, ask me can I prove they exist the answer is no.
