The signs are old and the grades are pretty steep. It's to help keep people from overheating, I guess. With a 4 cylinder, loaded down HHR it might be necessary to turn it off to keep momentum. Mine would sometimes downshift to 3rd and hold at 4000 rpm to get up some of the mountains. I don't think there are any of those signs on the I80 route, I think they were just on I15 to Vegas, but there might be a couple in Nevada near Elko or Winnemuca.

And yes, Nebraska is boring. Seriously boring. Watch out for the people in Omaha...some of them are allergic to turn signals and they sometimes forget they need to be in a certain lane for their exit and will cut across all 4 because being prepared is stupid apparently. And don't let the signs fool you, Nebraska is so not "the Good Life". hahahahaha Have a safe trip.

 

Nope no signs like that in Nevada. I only remeber those in southern Cali. Ended coming up behind some one in the middle of the freeway that didnt listen to the sign and overheated. You'll be ok going over the passes around here, when it down shifts I just pop it into I till the top.

Yeah, I couldn't remember exactly where the signs stopped. Now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing any after that last grade in California. It's all kind of a beige blur down there between Vegas and Riverside. I have to say that northern Nevada is much nicer to look at and drive through then the southern part.

 

I got the panel loaded up, and it's ready to go. MY lowered HHR is just a little lower now. The rear wheel wells are just above the tires. I guess it went down another inch over the gen 2 goldline drop. It still drives nice though!
