Drove a New Camaro on Saturday

I took my HHR SS in for a routine oil change and tire rotation and while I was waiting I decided to go take a took at a 2010 Camaro RS V6 they had on the lot. I went in to ask for a brochure to have something to flip through while I was waiting and the Dealership owner said they only pass out the brochures to people who drive the car. He was joking of course since he is a friend of my Fathers so I told him I would be happy to drive the car to get a brochure. So they moved the few cars blocking it from its display location and let me take it for a spin. It was nicely loaded and only seemed to be missing the V8 engine. It is a nice car and I may have to try and convince my wife to let me buy a SS version when they come available. The trick will be how to do that without losing my HHR SS. Well that and coming up with the $$$ for one.

The Camaro is a really nice car, but i still prefer the HHR SS.

Power of the HHR SS, with stage kit, is more or less on par with the Camaro V6, but the HHR uses less fuel.

I know. Even though the new ''heartbeat of America'' is built right here in Canada, i'm still biased towards the HHR SS.

Yeah, looked at a couple at 2 different dealerships, last friday (was looking for an OEM part). Both were V6's with a dealer mark-up of $3000-$3500.

Frankly, although I DO like the styling, the quality control is lacking IMO. On both vehicles the hood alignment was off and the door bottom to rocker panels were off. One had "untucked" carpeting from the door molding.

All the issues could be fixed by the dealer. But really, they should never have left the factory like that!!

I would hope (or assume) that those may be errors perhaps because they are some of the first to be made, and maybe the workers didn't quite know what they were doing or something. I don't know. One of the typical reasons you usually don't want a first model year car....

I agree "kid"... Although, I bought 1st year HHR and the fit is better than the Camaro.

But my point is...IF GM is saying, "We are changing, look at this car.", it should have never left the factory that way. If it does, I would think a dealer would make the corrections before putting the "latest and greatest" on display.

In fact, my SIL was with me and considering a Camaro (on my employee discount). He decided to wait for about a year, because of what we saw.

I haven't drove one yet but last Thursday at Harrah's in Maryland Heights,Mo. they had a big advertising campaign with a bar b que and parade of 40 new Camaros.
We got to participate, free food and Camaro stuff for being there with ours and twenty four more older Camaros from the Gateway Camaro Club.

Pictures and some video clips from the event on this link and next page:

I agree with Snoopy. It's not like GM can't build cars fast enough. They can go over every single one with a fine tooth comb. Heck, they should always do that anyway.

Actually the Camero V6 is reported to get 29mpgs. I dont think the 2.0turbo ecotec can beat that can it? I average 32mpgs w/ my base 2.2L ecotec.
